    General of the Army of Northern Virginia. Graduate of West Point. No political offices. He was president of Washington college before he died. He was a professional soldier. He was anti slavery and anti secessionist. Lincoln offered him command of the US Army, but Lee remained loyal to his state of Virginia. He was and is a genuine American hero.

    He was the general in charge of the confederate army. Jefferson Davis was President of the Confederacy.. not part of what you asked but I believe Robert E Lees wife was George Washing tons grand daughter...

    none. He was a career military man. After the war he lost his citizenship, so he couldn't hold office.
