What do you have to say about linux?

I am having some trouble with my windows vista. I was wondering if anyone has or had linux and what they think about it? What are the pros and cons of having it? Thanks!

If you're used to Windows-based operating systems you'll find the transition to Linux to be tricky and there will be quite a bit you have to learn about how the file-system works and what have you.

It's a very good operating system due to the fact that it's very customizable and open source. If you have good programming experience you can pretty much make it do what you want.

If you're not much of a computer user it can still be a good platform but you may find that some of the programs you use won't work on Linux distros. You'll have to search out on the net for substitutes that work for Linux.

All in all, I prefer Windows for home computing but your mileage may vary.

my xp based machines would be rubble is less then a week from viruses even with the best AV and firewalls. I had vista for about 2 weeks then it locked up an external HD for no reason that was it for me I went to linux mint ( a great ubuntu based distro) now I nearly go blind surfing porn with no firewall for over a year and it still runs nearly as perfect as the day I installed the OS I have only had minor hassles finding the right program to handle windws crap its been very good to me and will likly never consider MS products again.

heck my copy of XP is boot legged and I still feel cheated from all the ruind computers it left behind

Well, i installed linux openSUSE for about 30 minutes ago and I have real issues with installing the graphic card.... but that is just me. Hopefully i will fix it soon.

The first impression is good. Just know what you are doing and backup your private files before installing linux.
