2002 Honda Civic lack of acceleration?
Hello there!
I have a 2002 honda civic lx manual transmission with 81000 km on it.
Recently i have noticed that when i press the acceleration pedal hard, the car doesnt speed up as fast as i press it.
It feels like as if it doesnt want to go as fast as i want it and it takes time to accelerate to the point where i want it.
It doesnt rev high anymore.
I have changed the spark plugs, do my oil and filter change as recommended by the manual. This is a strange issue as when i want to accelerate on green light, it takes time to reach the speed. This problem just happened in the last 2 weeks.
What seems to be causing this and is it expensive to fix?
Thanks to anyone who answers to my question.

You say that the acceleration is not as quick, so unless it is misfiring I really doubt it has anything to do with the ignition components. Be sure that the plugs you installed are NGK (factory) and if you replace the wires, they should be from Honda. It does not make sense to put aftermarket parts in a Honda, the reason it's reliable is because of the part put in it at the factory. Keep it reliable by installing those same parts.
As for the poor acceleration, the first place I'd look is the exhaust system. Is it clogged at all? Occasionally pieces break apart in the catalytic converter and will move around inside and clog the exhaust. Climb under there and bang on it and see if you hear anything moving around in there.

Put a V8 in that bad boy! J/K sorry. Sounds like maybe an ignition coil, plug wire loose or bad or possibly an injector like the last guy said.

replace air filter with high flow air filter e.i, K&N, clean the throttle body, clean the fuel injectors, get top of the line spark plugs and wires, check the fuel pump, replace it if it's bad.

it may be because of a bad fuel injector, i would take it to a shop and have them check the injector it may cost around 100 to 200 dollars to fix.

Perhaps your fuel filter is getting plugged up. Try replacing that, (they're cheap), and see where it gets you.
