Where can we get a Tortoise?
Our family are thinking about obtaining some pet Tortoises in the somewhat near future, but we need to know if we can get one first.
Does anyone know of anyone who can supply us with a pet Tortoise or two? The supplier should ideally be around Cambridge, Bury St. Edmunds, Norwich, Thetford or anywhere in the Norfolk/suffolk/Cambridgshire area.

you could try the tortoiseshop.com they are really good, or petfinder has tortoises i was looking the other day, but you could also get in touch with the tortoise trust (tortoisetrust.org) they sometimes have tortoises you can adopt, so do the British chelonia group (www.britishcheloniagroup.org.uk) why give your money to a breeder when you can offer a loving home to a tortoise who is in need of a loving home and you can be sure that the tortoise you get from either one of these organisations will be in good health and you will receive excellent care advice to do your best by any future tortoise, best of luck honey.

Your best bet is to go to yahoo groups and go to the tortoise trust group.(theres a link from the tortoise trust web site)There are breeders all over the country who will supply you with a healthy, captive bred tortoise.Just join the group which takes all of 30 seconds and ask for breeders in the areas you want. There will be loads in your area. You will also be able to get lots of excellent free advice from alot of very experienced tortoise keepers/breeders.
Please do not buy from a pet shop. Most of these are not captive bred and are imported wild caught tortoises. The illegal trade and the cruel way they are imported/exported will only stop when people stop buying from pet shops.
They are often kept in large numbers ,often mixed species and in vivariums which is a big no no for tortoises.

it would be effectual to comprehend the place you're going, and the type you're going/how long you will commute. in many cases, a pair days with minimum help isn't a huge deal. a consumer-friendly decision is 'cocooning'- %. them of their very own plastic packing containers or tubs with lids that are close to to their length (disposable nutrition storage packing containers are large), then %. them with moss, paper toweling, and so on.around them to decrease circulation and rigidity (that's way less demanding than moving around in small, dark places). Their might desire to be some very minor dampening to maintain some gentle humidity. some air holes on each and every wall grants air flow. positioned the tubs in a field and positioned wadded newspaper around to decrease circulation, vibration, and warmth loss. make effective air can nonetheless flow around the tubs freely. upload some chemical hand-warmer packs interior the field if mandatory to maintain temps down. positioned some air holes interior the field. If possible, use a probe thermometer with a extreme/low alarm to visual reveal unit the temps interior the packing containers. Label each and every tub and the field with emergency assistance- what's in there, a solid touch extensive type, a advantages furnish, and so on. in basic terms in case it gets faraway from you. in basic terms as a speedy FYI- Sulcata is the African Spurred Tortoise, not Spur-thighed. it extremely is a consumer-friendly errors at distinctive web content. The Greek is the Spur-thighed.

I would try petfinder.com. My daughter and I have adopted many reptiles over the years (including a greek tortoise) and find them to be so loving, full of personality and they really seem to know you saved them. There are so many animals that need homes...why not give them one?
