DayCare Assistant Teacher Interview-Help!?
I'm 16 and I applied for a job at Celebree, a daycare/preschool center for an assistant teacher, just last week. They responded very quickly and set me up for an interview in two days and I'm SO nervous! She made it sound like they were pretty desperate for assistant teachers, and said that my interviewer will be asking me a lot of questions.
Honestly, I don't have too much experience working with kids, but I love kids, and I loved the times I did have when I got to work with them. I'm afraid my short list of work experience with kids will seem pathetic. Anyways, What can I expect the interviewer will ask me? I'm pretty sure I won't be doing too much work with the kids, mostly helping the teachers plan and execute activities
Thanks so much!

The company knows you are young and that your resume is small. If they know your age and still wanted an interview, you are in the clear so don't be nervous. You already know they are in need of teachers so just tell them in the interview exactly what you said here. You love working with children and mention that you are creative (which I imagine you are) and they will love you. Be prepared to answer, "so tell me about yourself," "if you had a misbehaving child, how would to react," and "tell me about a fun activity you would do with the children." Good luck!

You've had a lot of ideas of questions that may be asked. So I won't add to those with the exception that they will most probably use "tell me" questions and allow you to do most of the talking. They can learn a lot about you when they are silent and we feel like we need to fill in the silence so we begin to "ramble" LOL yep, it does happen! They will probably ask about what you would do in certain situations like child biting, parent complaints, in emergencies etc. One thing I do want to mention is that it is OKAY to state that you aren't sure of the answer to that question and how would that particular scenario be resolved in their program? As someone sitting on an interview I look at it as this person knows his/her strengths and weakness and are willing to learn. As an interviewee I usually answered with the info I had but if I really didn't know the answer I admitted it and it always was something they mentioned later...my willingness to admit when I don't know something and learn. Good luck!

One of the major things that you will probably be asked is if you know CPR. Whether or not you have experience is not as important as knowing how to save a child's life. She will probably want to know what kind of experience you have had and if you have ever worked with children at all. Keep in mind that babysitting (even if it is for family members) counts in that department. Any situation in which you were kept in charge of children younger then you is considered experience. Other then that, be open with her. Let her know that you have not had any professional workings with children, but that you are willing to learn and you are ready to work at Celebree. People want someone who they feel that they can leave alone with children and not have to worry. Also, be yourself. You need to show them that you love kids and really want this job. For outfit, try to look like a school marm. I know that may seem weird, but trust me, it works!Good luck on your interview!
