    For anyone wondering how a problem like this would be solved, you would use Euler's formula. Euler's formula is as follows:

    Vertices - Edges + Faces = 2

    Using some simple algebra, one can change this around to find what you want:

    7 - Edges + 6 = 2 ->

    5 - Edges + 6 = 0 ->

    11 - Edges = 0 ->

    Edges = 11

    And there's your answer.
