Anyone driven from Eugene, OR to San Diego, Ca?
I'm taking a road trip in September, and am scared about the "traffic" in California! I grew up in a town with NO stoplights (believe it or not!) I heard driving the coast takes a LOT longer, gut it seems as though it would be beautiful.... Is that not a good way to go? ANY advise, websites with good driving directions, or good maps, or ANYTHING would be really helpful! Thanks in advance!

I drove from San Jose to Los Angeles by the coast (down the 101)....most of my driving was at night so I was not able to see much of the scenery. Driving through Ventura right before Los Angeles is very nice.
However, I would only recommend it if you have time because it does take longer and Interstate 5 is a much better drive. If you get on I-5 in Oregon you will hit Sacramento, which 99% of the time, day or night, that i've driven there traffic was at least alright, some slow downs but nothing horrible.
The L.A. area all the way to San Diego is always good to me unless I hit that area during a weekday rush hour or something. (Happened to me once).
As far as - just in case you have never driven in a large city - the freeways and highways are nothing to worry about. Its safer to stick to them and stay close to them and heavier traffic streets, I'm sure there are neighborhoods in the Los Angeles area you do not want to get lost in.
There are plenty of signs to guide you to Los Angeles, than San Diego, you really can't get lost.
I've been to San Diego once for a football game, don't remember much about it, got lost and ended up beachside, at least I got to see the ocean ;)
You'll be fine, Have Fun!
