Do your agree with Albert Einstein on this one?

A letter from Einstein is being sold this week. In it he says:

"The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish.

What think you of his harsh words?

Update:

I think to tell someone that their beliefs are "childish" is a bit harsh, maybe not by Y!A standards but I suspect people wouldn't say this to a Christian to his/her face in polite company.

Update 2:

No, I did not make it up, sorry I did not post the link originally. Here is the link:

Now, where is my apology?

I hope this will end the horrible habit of theists of misquoting, or quoting him out of context, in a pathetic attempt to show he was some kind of fellow theist.

    He obviously was NOT.

Yup -- I mostly agree with him. I disagree with you that they are harsh. I do not think that all of what is in the Bible is honorable. What is honorable about killing the first born of every family in the city? What is honorable about it being OK to beat your slaves, as long as they can get up within a few days?

I believe that much of the Bible is a political manifesto meant to keep the people in their place by using the word of God. The Greek Kings, the Caesars, the Japanese Emperors and Moses were all political leaders who claimed to speak with God. Why believe Moses and not the others?

"What think you of his harsh words?"

Well .. u shud have said his words are harsh.. And if u wud have said that then its your opinion of his comments.. God or anything for that matter is something which has to be approached by one-self. Something like each one are unique in this world.. So are their thoughts and actions. So Einstein's comments are his opinions.. We can either support his words or reject his words. Its pity that majority wins in this world..

I would agree up to a point, that point being that God is powerful enough to work through the Bible to reveal and inspire in spite of all the human weakness and primitive-ness.

Those words aren't all that harsh. When I tell my 6 year old to turn off the tv. -- now THAT is harsh.

He also wrote about the need for some intellectual designer too. I believe he was less of a critic of a God as he got onto the latter part of his life!!

Harsh, but ultimately...true. Overly simplistic and utterly lacking context, but true nonetheless.

    Hooray for Albert! Right on!

A scientist who doesn't believe in God. Imagine my surprise.
