Would 1-year suspensions help curb the NCAA violations?

Even if Bush and Mayo are found guilty of NCAA violations, what punishment do they receive? None. How can we expect high school and college athletes to turn down money, gifts, etc form the boosters, agents, etc. if there are no reprocusions? Would a 1-year suspension in their respective profession league help curb the NCAA violations? Would a 1-year suspension be justified or would you find that excessive?

Some punishment is going to have to be dolled out to someone at some point. Seems everybody gets away free and clear. I'm sure there is much more of this crap going on than we know about. What is currently being done, is not deterring anyone.

  • And you blame the kids for being kids? Well, I blame the vultures preying on these youngsters and using them to get rich. I'm not talking about the school's but the booster's, agents, and mooching family members. So no, I don't think it would be right and i also don't think it would curb anything.

Source(s): Skin color aside, you don't hear Matt Leinart's or Tyler Hansbrough's name because they didn't come from poor families. Put yourself in these kids shoes, you would probably take gifts and cash too. It's so easy to judge from the outside, when the temptation is not being waved in your face 24/7.
