19 AnswersWrestling1 decade agoCan a PS2 cause discoloration on my TV screen?
My TV has developed some discoloration on the side of the screen. I did not notice when this started but I recently moved my Playstation 2 to the side of the TV, leaning directly against it. Is there a magnet or anything else in the PS2 that could cause this discoloration. It isn't a major discoloration, but it has been there for months now, any chance that it will go away if I move the PS2, assuming it is the culprit?
4 AnswersTVs1 decade agoWith the technology we have today, why do we even want/need umpires?
I know I am in the minority here thanks to all of the baseball "purists", but I honestly would rather see a computer behind the plate calling balls and strikes than an umpire. They have the technology, they used it a few seasons back to track the ump's strike zones. I would like to see that technology taken a step further. Set up a standardized strike zone and let the computer determine if the ball was in the zone or not. Nothing ticks me off more than an ump calling one pitch at the knees a strike and the next one a ball, nevermind the fact that the ump the next night will do the exact opposite with pitches letter high. Not to mention the numerous plays at 1st, shots down the line, homeruns, etc. that could could all be called correctly very easily with a 30 second look at the tape.
Give me a reason to keep fallible umpires when they can be replaced with infallible technologies.
(Speed of the game is the only legitimate reason I can think of)
15 AnswersBaseball1 decade agoPlay at the plate rules question...?
Let's say a baserunner avoids the catcher's tag but also misses tagging the plate and runs past the plate. Assuming there's no force play at the plate, since there are no base lines confining the runner, is the runner allowed to run anywhere and everywhere he wants to avoid the catcher's tag? Is there some rule setting up boundaries around the plate? Could the runner just run around forever if the catcher is unable to tag him?
7 AnswersBaseball1 decade agoSettle an argument between me and my wife..Is a watch considered jewelry?
I won't say who thinks what to try and keep thing impartial. We were watching Celebrity Family Fued and there was a category along the lines of "Things a wealthy woman would buy her boytoy", something like that. The two of us were saying answers aloud and one of said a watch and then the other of us said jewelry. One of us said "A watch is jewel" and thus the arguement started. Things got really funny when one of the answers on the show was "watch/jewelry". We couldn't agree if that meant they were two separate answers or not.
What do you think?

Someone asked a question about an asteroid that may hit Earth in 20-30 years and his question said the asteroid is about the size of a football field. 100 yards doesn't sound all that big in relative terms. How big must an asteroid be for it to make it all the through our atmosphere without burning up?

1 AnswerMovies1 decade agoHold Em' question concerning pot odds and calls.....?
Let me try this again since I didn't get any decent answers yesterday.....
If I am on a draw, is a good call after the flop only a good call if I get to see the turn and the river? What I mean here is, when you determine pot odds after the flop, (8 outs = 32%, for example), that percentage is based on me hitting an out on the turn OR the river, right? What happens when I don't hit my out on the turn and my opponent makes another bet that would now be a bad call once my odds are cut in half (8 outs = 16% after the turn)? Is a good call after the flop only a good call if you get to see the turn AND river? It seems to me that a call after the flop is only good if I take full advantage of the odds which were calculated which could mean seeing the hand out to the river. How do you adjust for this?

Even if Bush and Mayo are found guilty of NCAA violations, what punishment do they receive? None. How can we expect high school and college athletes to turn down money, gifts, etc form the boosters, agents, etc. if there are no reprocusions? Would a 1-year suspension in their respective profession league help curb the NCAA violations? Would a 1-year suspension be justified or would you find that excessive?

When the newest and hottest young talent comes along, can he just sign with whatever team he wants, or is there a draft like there is in all major sports here in the States?
Is there free-agency much like there is here also? If so, are there "big market" teams that tend to sign the best players to large contracts like the Yankees and Red Sox?

The Celtics are 0-3 on the road, but moving to the 2nd round nonetheless. With the best record in the NBA and home-court throughout, they could theoretically go 0-12 on the road and still win the title. Has any team come close to something like this? What is the fewest number of road victories an eventually champion has had in one playoff run?

11 AnswersGoogle1 decade agoQuestion about my wife's student loans, about $60,000 in total..?
My wife racked up about $60K in student loans getting her Ph.D. We started making her payments about a year ago, $330/month. After a year, I saw that we have paid about $4,000 but have only dropped her balance $1,500. So if I am doing my math right, that's about $2,500 in interest on $60K, which works out to like 4%. Doesn't sound bad to me, but it is just disheartening knowing that we will be making this monthly payment seemingly forever.
She will soon be getting a full-time position and a compesatory salary for someone with her education. Is there anything we can do to pay off this loan in a better fashion? If we can afford larger monthly payments, would it be wise to make them? Any general advice for situations like this would be appreciated.
