Okay like on Will and Grace..Karen and Jack were supporting actors..Supporting actors are usually people that play best friend, spouse, parent of the main character..Like on the King of Queens Arthur was a supporting actor to Doug and Carrie, they are someone who is in most of the episodes with the main character..I would not say that Janice or Gunter are supporting actors, they are more like recurring roles, technically friends was supposed to revolve around Monicas character making everyone else supporting actors, BUT that didnt work to well..

They are both supporting characters as they have actual lines to say. If gunther said nothing at all, he would just be an extra.
