Henin to announce her retirement?

http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news;_ylt=AnWpFqVFXxHk...

Can you believe this? She is planning to announce her retirement on Wednesday, according to a Belgian newspaper. I knew she's been having a bad run lately, but throwing in the towel on her whole career over a few bad losses? Your thoughts?

It will confirm what Justine has told us about herself all along.

She told us in the AO final.

She told us in again the Fed Cup final.

She is a quitter. She would rather quit and cite injury than lose fairly. She would rather quit than give her opponent credit for actually beating her.

    Why would anyone be surprised?

The Belgians Justine Henin and Kim Clitster are talented but not tough. She is still #1 in the world and only 25 years young.

Well everyone tosses in the towel eventually but she was still near the top of her game and certainly at the top of the leaders board. She will be sorely missed but it just creates the opportunity for Masha to get to #1 again even sooner. I was hoping that this day wouldn't come for at least a few more years. Hell it makes Roger's eventual departure that much more real too. Shame that such true talent and hard work won't be around anymore to entertain or inspire. So all you Fed haters repent now while you still can...cause once he's gone all tennis will have is the memories and the records that he set and broke.

I am shocked to hear such news. I'm not really a fan of hers, but players like her are what make competitive tennis exciting. It's kind of sad really that she would quit just because of a few bumps on the road. I did not expect anyone to retire while they are at the top (no.1). Hope that she will not make such an announcement just yet.

I guess it doesn't help that she was always scrutinized by the media and tennis fans alike...

But seriously can you imagine Serena quitting because of a few bad incidents? I think her retirement resolves the issue of who was the stronger player between Henin and her arch-rival Serena. If you think about it though, this is bad for tennis; Henin playing the power girls of Serena, Venus, and Sharapova was always fun to watch, and now that Mauresmo is essentially gone too, where are we going to see another finesse vs. power match?

its really sad. how can one who is on top of her career can call it quits just like that. her defeats could not be taken yet as signs of darkness looming in the horizon. i just can't read her mind. maybe she saw it coming and had lost the courage and hope to face it. she can take a lay off from GS and still be the #1. I guess we just have to face it as well and respect her decision whatever is the reason behind it. good for you Maria. I always know you' re the best. JH had seen it coming

That's really sad to hear that a currently top-ranked player will retire at a young age. Although i'm not a fan of hers, i'm sad that she will soon retire. She is a great tennis player and makes good rivalry to anyone. And this news is pretty shocking... i heard her say she'll be retiring but she said it is going to be after 2-5 years =(

Uhm, so who'll get her spot? ... Masha?

Wow, this is a surprise. I didn't figure we would hear this announcement for another few years.

But as the article also said she's been struggling with her health. I wonder how much of this had to do with the long term effect of a virus she had several years ago.

As a Henin fan, I hope this is not true. Will wait for her official announcement before I believe.

She is a great player and has achieved a lot.

    She might make a comeback,later
