What can make swallowing feel slow and maybe give mild hearing loss?
For months now, whenever I eat or drink anything it feels like it's going down slowly. I can also feel it as it goes down, especially cold liquids.
I've already been to my doctor about mild hearing loss. She said there was congestion causing my eardrum to be under pressure, and gave me anti-allergy nose spray, which hasn't helped.
I'm not sure if the swallowing and congestion are related. I haven't told my doctor about the swallowing thing because I didn't think it could be a "condition" until I looked it up online just now. I don't have any other symptoms. I am on thyroxin for hypothyroidism, but the last blood test showed my thyroid levels were all fine. Hypothyroidism runs in my family.
Any ideas? Thanks!
PS - I had my tonsils out when I was a kid.

I can't speak to the mild hearing loss, but as you say you are being treated for Hypothyroidsim, I will tell you that problems with your adrenals are a very common side condition of this problem. I bring this up because years back, I suddenly had difficulty swallowing -- went through all the traditional med tests, who found nothing wrong, everyone said it was in my head. So I even started attending congnitive therapy sessions to see if I could get help. But deep in my gut, I knew it was physically related. After searching high and low, I stumbled on Dr. TeitelBaum's "From Fatigued to Fantastic," and determined that I might have Adrenal fatigue. Treated that and my swallowing problem went away. Not saying this is the case with you, but it was a mysterious problem that no one seemed to have a clue about. Godd luck.

I would say they two conditions are probable related because your ears and swallowing and sinus are all connected. You may have a very bad inner ear infection and they can go un detected for a while or mabey its your tonsills, they might be playing up but not painful enough to notice, if there is a problem with your ear and or throat then usually the other is affected as well. Talk to your doctor and please dont get blown off by them because if your unwell they should find out why.

sounds like something in your throat is inflamed. with a fever anything cold would feel even colder and stand out, plus there is inflammation. with hypothyroidism it could very well be a gland, like the thyroid...which is located in that region.
your ears and throat are very closely related. you even have a little opening in your throat to help with ear presser etc. if an infection made it from your throat to your ears then that could be the problem. also any inflammation could be pressing on your internal ear workings causing you to lose hearing.
