Do you think we can UNITE as a country to bring down GAS PRICES? IDEAS??

I just can't believe that there is NOTHING we can do as a country or as consumers to force these UNGODLY gas prices down! We are most DEFINITELY being gouged and it seems the oil companies are laughing straight to the bank as the blame continues to be put on President Bush (appropriately so in the majority). They are taking advantage of the fact that this is the belief so, they are running with it! It has gotten completely out of control and it is to the point where we can't even afford to mow our lawns as they should be. MOW OUR LAWNS!!! This is the beginning of the end if something isn't done and I am asking everyone to put in a thought about what we might be able to do and lets seriously try to make an effort together to force these prices down.

I know I am asking a lot and that I am most likely not going to be able to make anything work but I am willing to be the one to start to try! Wishfull thinking....? Maybe.

The only thing that would get the oil companies to lower their profit margin on gasoline, is to make a serious effort to nationalize the oil companies the same way the Saudis did as soon as they realized that the oil companies were getting their oil, getting rich off it and ultimately, leave them with nothing when one day the oil ran out.

Before everyone starts hollering socialism, think about this- the oil is a natural resource of our nation- why should we let the oil companies get it, own it, and use it to their benefit and charge us an outrageous price so that they may make an outrageous profit off it, when it does not belong to the oil companies. It belongs to the citizens of this nation, and our government is supposed to be safeguarding our national resources for the future generations to use. Think about this- what if the government let the timber companies cut all the timber off the national forests for their own profit, created a monopoly so they could price gouge us and charge us $50 dollars for a two by four piece of wood. This example is exactly what the oil companies are doing to the U.S. at this very moment.

The only way to bring down the price of gas is to cut the demand or bring up the supply. Drilling in ANWR would help but, it would only be a drop in the bucket of what this country goes thru in a day. The demand is so high world wide. China and India are two big countries that are demanding more and more oil.

The president has nothing to do with the price. Oil companies have little if no control over the price. Oil is traded on a global market based on supply vs demand.

If everyone stopped buying gas for one day it would do nothing. If everyone stopped buying gas for a week it would probably bring down the price of gas because the demand went down. Once people started buying it again and the demand goes up. So would the price.

I get the feeling that people just like to *****. Put the blame on someone else. Where there is a will. There is a way...To do without oil.

I mow my lawn and don't use and ounce of gas. It's Electric.

I agree with pieces of all of these ideas. We can do a combination of things. Whether the truth is that we are being gouged or not, I don't know. Our government is costing the oil companies a fortune as well. They have record profits but they do invest the majority of that BACK into the company. That being said, we can carpool, bike, walk etc... that's part of it. Our consumption has to be cut back if we're to make an impact, but we're talking massive proportions here. Businesses most likely contribue more to consumption than consumers do. I've got a good solution... it's called ANWAR. Why the heck not drill the vast land that is Alaska? Start a chain email campaign to everyone you know and get them on board. Establish a day a week that you refuse to use any gasoline (or purchase any at the minimum). Do that for a while... a 14% decrease in gasoline consumption and sales would have to make them notice, wouldn't it?

Why is Ron Paul a shaggy dog tale and in case you don't comprehend who Ron Paul is.. look him up! My god, the guy ran (or remains working) for President. do not you think of you're able to comprehend approximately each and every candidate or can't you vote? looking oil isn't the difficulty. The Dakotas have an oil pocket it incredibly is envisioned to be as vast because of the fact the wallet in Saudi Arabia... purely we at the instant are not drilling it. that may not a furnish and insist project in that the call for is larger than the provision. area of the present subject is artificially manipulating furnish mixed with a US greenback it incredibly is close to to valueless (nicely worth 60 cents in Europe on the 2nd). i like a number of Mr. Paul's concepts yet i'm not so specific approximately this one. in case you do somewhat diagnosis you will see that oil companies have, interior the previous, offered refineries and then close them down interior according to week of purchase to help inflate the fee on the pump. i don't think of the respond is offering government perks to grease companies in any way (for development/making an investment in refineries). we could make a brilliant change in direction of yet another gas selection and do it speedy. Screw those companies, their billions in income and their vast foyer money. We had a working engine that ran off of water (switched over it to hydrogen) interior the 1940's! the guy, an immigrant that the U. S. asked circulate right here, tried to pitch that engine for 40 years and no-one might touch it. he's ineffective now however the patent remains there and shall we nonetheless hire it. Why are not we? Our modern subject is via layout... offering legislations it incredibly is oil product or industry particular is probably not helping all and sundry. that's the equivalent of putting a band-help over a gunshot wound -- and ignoring the lacking limb.

About the most effective move we can make is to end the War in Iraq. Our government is buying gas, diesel, and jet fuel off the world market and paying "contractors" to haul it up to Baghdad for us at a HUGE price, and we use millions of barrels of it every day. Nope, cant get it from the Iraqis who are selling it on the world market, that would be too easy and smart.

Until we can do that, we just have to cut down on the use of the car. Don't complain, just do it. And if you ever voted for Dubya, find a chopping block and circumcise yourself with a rusty hatchet !!!

You know, the US is currently living what the rest of the world been living for years. Take Europe for example, gas has been extremely high priced for years. Higher than what the US is paying currently. When gas prices went up in the US, it didn't went up in Europe. The US has been lucky with gas prices for years. Now, prices are going up in the US because the value of the dollar is low. There is nothing we can really do about the prices. Only thing there is to do is producing gas home. Get more refineries. Producing instead of buying from another country.

i'm not susre anything would work--lots of people blame bush seems like they just want someone to blame.---supply and demand is what sets the price.-- lets hope demand goes down but we are talking about a world wide demand.--look at it like this--if there was one bushel of corn left on market and you had 25 people wanting to buy it--i'm sure the price would go up & up & up. i sure dont like the gas prices and i think stopping the fed. gas tax for the sumer [.18c per gal ] isnt enough.--we need it back in the $2 range [wishful thinking]

If everyone would ride bikes or walk a little more than they drive then there wouldn't be such a need for gas and prices would go down. Supply and demand.

  • 1 decade ago

Yes! OMG... ive been thinking the same thing. We should do like the writers strike.... and go on a gas strik eand just stand at gas stations w. signs for days.

Not buying gas would work to... but thats hard for some people.

  • 1 decade ago

Yes we can! Decrease demand for gas! The laws of supply and demand.

Carpool-drive the speed limit-drive less-walk-so on so forth.

And one-day gas boycotts dont work-its takes time so for anyone who suggests that its a dumb non effective idea.
