Stimulus checks...what if wrong amount?
My daughter is married with three children......they 'should' receive $2,100 on the stimulus check......BUT, when she went on irs.com, it told her they were getting back $1,500. We have read and reread the requirements and it states $300 for EACH child. Is there any phone number/email address that she can ask about this? We can't find any.
WHERE did I say we were upset?? It is a question about receiving details, not complaining about the amount.

As Judy said, if your daughter and her husband did not pay at least $1200 in federal tax they will not receive the total $1200 for 2 married adults. If they have 3 children they likely received a child tax credit of $1000 per child when they filed their taxes, so they may not have paid any federal tax at all to begin with. Have them check their 1040 form on the 2nd page and look at tax paid after the child tax credit, if it is less then $600 that is why they only received $600 for them (their children got $300 each regardless payable to the parents) for a total of $1500. We have 4 children but paid over $1500 in federal tax, so our family got $2400 back. This is a rebate so you had to pay $1200 as a couple to get the full $1200 back.

Because daughter and husband where not eligible for the maximum of $600 each. Most likely lower income and did not pay at least that amount in taxes ($1200) This appears to be a large misconception among people. This is a rebate as in a remittance of what you have paid in, if you have paid nothing you do still get the gift of $300, plus the gift of $300 per child. I do wish more people would have read the rules on this instead of automatically believing that the set amount was $600, but I do think the media hype helped to stir this up. Hope this clears this situation up for you a little.

They probably did get the $300 for each child. What you need to reread is the qualification for the amount the parents get. Your stimulus payment is based on your net federal income tax for 2007. If your tax was between $600 and $1200 on your joint return, you get back everything you paid. If your tax was less than $600, you get an even better deal, and get $600, even MORE than you paid in. If you paid over $1200 though, your rebate is limited to $1200.
It sounds like they most likely were eligible for $600 for the two parents together, total, plus the $900 for the 3 kids - that would be the $1500 they got.

I assume the children are under age 17.
The amount of the rebate is based on the tax liability. In your daughter's case, the tax liability (the line that says "tax" on the tax return) was $600 or less. This qualifies her for the minimum rebate of $300 for each person on the tax return, or $1,500.

Alot of people are only getting 300 per adult, I know thats all we are getting but I know some people with higher incomes getting the full amount and some with less getting full amounts I think the IRS has no clue on what they are doing with this....

She gets $1500 and you all are upset? I would be thrilled if I got that much.
Be happy you got it, there are lots of people who lost out because they are college students who work and their parents claimed them because they may help pay for school or books..........
This is free money, it isn't a "right".
