1996 ford contour?
Does this 2.0 engine have the 4 spd trans with a torq lock up for o/d? Goes into overdrive as normal, stepping on gas merging into trafic. it will then downshift on expressway randomly. Sticks there at times and the o/d off light begins to flash. Never reengages unless i feather the gas before the light begins to flash. When it begins to flash i can;t get it back in. I punch it a bit then let off to try and get to go back in, but it don't. Anyone have this issue? Can that light flashing mean other things?

you have a transmission malfunction. the flashing o/d light is to let you know there is a problem.could be a major or a minor problem.it must be checked by a professional like myself.it must be scanned to see if there are any diagnostic trouble codes stored in the computer memory,this helps to determine if it is just a sensor or a major rebuild is required.
by the way i own a transmission shop.
