African fables vs hollywood?

In my mind I believe that the African fables have had a deep impact on hollywood's work despite the two contents; Africa and America are seperated by such a great body of water. How did that happen? And please illustrate your answer with examples. Thank you, and good luck!

Aadel, with slavery having occured in America for well over 250 years, and the majority of those slaves originating from Africa, it is no wonder that there is a discernable interchange of cultural references.

    1. Blackface Minstrelry....Hollywood did a movie with Al Jolson in the starring role. He did this movie in blackface. The influence of the Negro Spiritual and the rhythms and experience of life just after the Civil War are well represented in this movie.

    2. Songs of the South....Uncle Remus was a character created by a man named Joel Chandler Harris who initially began using this fictitious character in the Atlanta Constitution newspaper in 1876. The stories Uncle Remus told were all based upon a composite of African-American storytellers he had known and grown up with as a child, Bob Capers and Old Herbert.** It was made into a movie by Disney.

These are only two examples that would validate your theory.

However, I must say this, for it is as truthful as what you say....America is a multi-racial, multi-cultural place. I doubt there is any other country as diverse in existence today. Our folktales include John Henry, the greatest steel-driver of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad, a national icon, a man of African ancestry. They include Paul Bunyun, a mythic folk hero of truly large proportion. His tale originates with the real life lumberjacks of Canada. Our music hails from all over the globe, as well as the accents, foods and customs that we so cherish as being "American".

Source(s): **Ethnologists have studied the origins of the Uncle Remus stories for quite some time. While it is for certain that most, if not all, of the tales were brought over to America from Africa during the slavetrading era, it has been speculated that some of the tales originate from India or even Egypt. Like all folklore, the stories changed slightly as they were handed down over the generations.

The truth is the impact of slave trade is still very much present and most of this similerity or influance is a reflection of the needs of african ameriacan to identify with their roots and explore the great adventure of the other continent which they are connected to. This in turn stimulate their imagination and produce this impact that you now notice.

The fact that hollywood is also seriously competive with the indipendent producer churning out more blockbusters, you need to find an edge.
