Skunk Sprayed my dog?
Just about 2 hours ago, a skunk sprayed my yorkshire terrior. I just sprayed him outside and used dog shampoo and he still smells. he has been outside for about 30 minutes.. what should i do now? I know everyone says tomate sauce or paste or whatever..but I heard that it just keeps the smell off for a while, not totally. yeah so... What should I use and do? Should I keep him outside for a long time?? Live up north {yeah, eh?} so it's pretty cold and it might rain. and how long will it take for the smell to go away? Please Please help me, this haven't happened before.. so I don't know what to do. thanks. peace. and details.

Believe it or not, and I'm not being nasty, but douche works to totally get rid of the smell of skunk. You could try to get a douche which has a nice fragrance (other than a vinegar douche which would be much too harsh).
Have a lovely rest of the day.

Lol. I had the same problem. I took my dog to the vet and had her washed 3 times. It helped a bit, but the next time ti rained, the smell came back. I also tried a baking soda formula, but that didnt work so well. Tomato juice probably wont get you very far but I guess its worth a shot. What did the best was actually cat shampoo. My brother and I tied the dogs leash to a tree and washed her with my cats shampoo 3 times. It didnt remove teh smell 100 percent, but it did a pretty good job. Even if you cant get the smell away completely, the hair will eventually grow out, and you dog should smell good as new! Hope this helps!

White vinegar or hydrogen peroxide counteracts the natural oil in skunk spray. You need to clean with something stronger than water -- something that can remove oil instead of just spreading it around. Try this popular and highly recommended mixture:
1 liter (or quart) 3% hydrogen peroxide OR white vinegar
1/4 c. baking soda
1 tsp. dish detergent (also a de-greaser)
Mix ingredients in a bowl or bucket. Thoroughly wet your dog with the solution. Knead it well into the dog’s coat, being very careful to keep it out of his eyes, nose and mouth. You can use a sponge to carefully wipe it on his face. Once finished, rinse the dog thoroughly with clean water.
I know from experience that this method works!

Go to a pets store or call around to vets offices. They make a product to get rid of the smell. If you just leave it go it's going to last for days.
