Why do most of young pianists look like this?

Most of the child and teenagers that play the piano have always this snobby aspect (almost always). They are completely static in front of the piano, they are well dressed and usually tend to be arrogant. I am a teen pianist and I have seen that my aspect and behavior is not like the "typical behavior": I am not dressed in fine clothes (I always wear a balck sweater and black jeans), I tend to be depressive more than arrogant (I almost always think that I suck) and when I play I am usually happy and have a fun time (when I play, when I practice is different) and do not have this "100% serious aspect"

Note: I tend to think that I suck, but my piano teacher says I have a quiet good playing style

Update:

I am talking about pianists that are forced to play and not only to play, but to play classical music. In my case, the thing happened like this:

- I have always loved jazz and blues. I wanted to play saxophone but my parents couldn't afford it. There was an old electric piano at home. I started playing jazz and blues (with the help of a teacher) and now I am seen as a "jazz guy" (I am not a man yet) by many other musicians and what I enjoy the most are the jamming sessions (playing alone is fine, but playing with other people is a lot funnier) I am also a lil disappointed cuz I haven't found many pianists like me (teen pianists that like their piano, that like to mess around with the blues and that aren't forced to practice because they do it by their own way)

NOTE: I AM FROM PANAMA, NOT U.S.A

This from a senior citizen. I go the the symphony a lot. Our conductor does not wear a tux. Many of the younger male soloists also do not wear formal clothes. It took an old fuddy-duddy like me a while to get over it, but I've learned to concentrate on the music, not the clothes. (Most of the women still dress in elegant gowns, Maria Joao Perez being an exception.)

I'm glad that you enjoy music and hope that you find fellow young artists who are more congenial. Good luck/

I haven't met many pianists like that. I have a good friend who plays the piano, and he is this fun-loving, caring, and bubbly person.

I think they take pride in their playing, and so it just fills them up. You say, you don't think you're playing is that good, and so you get kind of depressed, b/c you don't think you're that great, and thus aren't snooty cuz you're not proud. It's a great thing to be able to play the piano. Takes a lot of skill and dedication. Kudos to you!!!

Actually that's not really true. I have a bunch of friends who play the piano who are never like that and wouldn't be like that if you forced them to.

  • I think they're proper rich kids whose parents forced them to take up the instrument.
