alot depends on what you want the tree for? shade? wind break? color? evergreens, etc. And the second question is what part of the country you live in?

One of the fastest growing trees is the Pawlonia (or paulonia) tomentosa.. Sometimes sold as Saphire Dragon here. Has large velvety leaves, followed by long branching saphire blue flower spikes in spring. Tolerates temperatures well below freezing into the extreme heat. Drops leaves in winter, but they make a great mulch for the garden as they decompose quickly

dont get a fast growing tree-
their wood is softer and they have a tendency to split
also fast growing trees tend to make longer roots faster messing up the sewer system

with speed come problems ie root invasion ,shallow roots and often the tree has a shorter life ,but if you are not concerned about this then try and evergreen alder
