Lumber is seasoned by stacking it with plenty of spaces for ventilation and allowing it to air dry or by placing it into a heated dry kiln which speeds up the drying process.
The reason wood is seasoned before use is because wet/green wood shrinks and can change shape (warp) as it is drying and that is not what you want your furniture or woodworking project to do.

When in Virginia I helped a friend with a band saw mill. Natural air drying of 1" rough cut lumber would take a year. We built a drying kiln using two old window A/C units that could do it in 3-4 weeks. To see why drying is important build two simple benches or boxes one out of dry and seasoned wood, the other of fresh cut and see what happens, It's amazing. RScott

first the log is cut into 1 inch thick or 2 inch thick strips --for air drying it s placed under a shed stacked with slats between each layer--and kept dry til 80 % of the moisture has evaporated--or it s placed in a dry kiln with artificial heat and dried --a dry kiln is a champer with heat forced into it by fans can be up to 200 degrees or more--kiln method is faster than air drying
