Yes, bacteria do have ribosomes, although the ribosomes they contain are slightly different from the ones that eukaryotes contain. In fact, the differences in prokaryotic and eukaryotic ribosomes is the basis for how some types of antibiotics work. Some antibiotics are designed to interrupt the normal functioning of prokaryotic ribosomes but not ours, which in turn inhibits their ability to produce proteins and thus kills them.

Bacterial ribosomes function to translate mRNA into a polypeptide. After mRNA has been transcribed from the bacterial chromosome, it does not have to be modified; instead it can immediately be used as a transcript by which the polypeptides are built on ribosomes. In fact, mRNA can be translated by bacterial ribosomes as it is being produced by transcription.

    a) Ribosomes aren't membrane bound. b) A ribosome is a large biochemical machine that makes proteins. Bacteria make proteins, therefore bacteria need ribosomes.

Yeah, they do, but structurally different than eukaryotic organisms. The bacterial ribosome consists of a 50S subunit and a 30S subunit (as I recall).

Functionally, they still need to synthesize proteins.

yes - 70 svedberg units in size, this is one of the differences between prokaryotes and eukeryotes

like in any cell, there is a need to build proteins in order to function, ribosomes are where proteins are made

YES BACTERIA has 70s (70 swedberg) type rhibozome . BUT bacteria doest contain CYTOPLASMIC STREMAIN/CYCLOSIS is absent

CYCLOSIS through wich pseudopodia is formed in AMOEBA .

i don't think so. but hey, i am a seventh grader going to the eighth, and just finished studying life science. Who also wants to be a biologists. sure, u can take my advice. Bacteria do not need energy since they are unicellular. hope i helped. can u answer my question?
