How can you play a DVD in a CD-ROM if you dont have a DVD-ROM?

I have a lot of DVDs but I can't watch them since I don't have a DVD player I can access anytime.. so I figured I can just watch them in my pc.. but I don't have a DVD-ROM and I don't want to get one.. Is there anyway i can watch them from my pc? or is there a program that can rip the files from the dvds into my pc through my cd-rom? so i'll just need to convert them into a format playable in my pc..

i heard from somewhere that nero can be used but i don't know what specific program.. can it be done? thanks for any help anyone might give.. ^^

You can't not without moding the drive, which can be found with a quick google (or yahoo) search.

Sorry, dude. The laser in a CD Rom, as far as I know, cannot read a DVD.

I think the program side of it you are thinking of is shrinking a DVD movie to a size that will fit on a CD Rom, but that would still require the ability to read a DVD disc.

Internal DVD burners these days are pretty cheap - from around $30 (AUD).

You need a DVD drive. CD ROM drives are too slow for DVD's and are completely different in format how they read data. I don't doubt that maybe Nero may have come up with a software solution, but running additional software = slower processing speed and more succeptability to problems. Talk with a FEW different professional computer techs and get their opinions. Good luck!

Well, for games and stuff, usually if you own the game, and have it installed, you can download something called a "no-cd crack" which you can find online easily enough. It will replace the file that you would regularly open with one, that doesn't need the cd. For dvd's however..It is a lot more difficult. Generally DVD's have a protection on them, the same as games (Which the crack would remove). There are things called dvd decrypters, but I haven't found one (I haven't looked too hard) that is free. However.. I have heard that "anydvd" will let you just save it to your computer with ease. Remember, that dvd's are large files, and will most likely take up a lot of space on your computer.

Even if you had a program, you would need a DVD reader. So if you dont want to get a DVD ROM, well, I guess you will have to wait until you have access to a DVD player.

No, it is not possible to do. Your CD ROM drive wouldnt recognize the dvd, and wouldnt even be able to access the files on the DVD for ripping and etc. You would need it to recognize it so you could rip the DVD and save it as a .avi file or similar type.

You can't. The laser for a CD drive is too large to read the pits on a DVD.

You have to have a DVD player/burner to be able to watch them or rip them.
