Where can I get a grant or financial help?
To make a very long story as short as possible... My husband inherited his fathers home when his father died in jan of 2006. We deeded our home back to the mortage company, and moved in with his mother. She was left with no income, and no savings. (She is elderly and disabled and has a 2 yr old autistic grandson living here also) So we are now a family of 10, living on my husbands 12 dollars an hour. We live in a very small town in Texas. Grants for fixing up your house are generally for people over age 62. Our house is falling down around our ears. It is very old. We have mold in here from the roof leaking. I am worried about my children's health. Does anyone know where we can turn to for help? My husband and I are both 36yrs old. I can not work because we have only one vehicle, and we live in the country. Any ideas? Oh yeah, we also have TERRIBLE credit now. We can not move beacuse every cent goes to bills and there is nothing left to move on.

I can't believe you are actually using the lack of a car as an excuse for not working. Buy a clunker and get yourself a job. Buy a car after you are working. You really have no excuse for your lack of income.
Also, your husband should get a better job. He is working for 12 an hour because he chooses too. If he has a family to support he, as well as you, needs to step up to the plate, and put your hand back in your pocket.
If you were really worried about your children you would look at what YOU can do, not what others can do for you. You are a grown up, time to act like one.

You are correct that grants for home repairs are very limited and given only to those 60+ living in very poor rural communities
