I am travelling to Israel in July with a study group, what should I pack?
Does anyone know what to pack so that I can pack lightly and effeciently? I know it is hot during the day, and cool at night. What is necessary for visiting religious shrines? Is American currency accepted? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

To pack efficiently, include a matching summer sweater or two for your outfits plus a light jacket. Bring match and mix outfits and comfortable walking shoes. (No heavy coat or rain gear will be necessary.) Not only can temperatures drop at night in some areas (ie., in Jerusalem, the desert, and parts of the north), but you will probably stay in hotels or visit venues that are well air-conditioned. If you don't normally wear skirts, bring a wraparound one that fits into your backpack for unexpected trips to any holy sites. A light shawl that covers your arms can also work, and can double as a sweater if it gets cool. You'll need to change some American dollars into shekels upon arrival, but there will be occasions where dollars may be used; just don't rely on that for everyday purposes.
Best wishes from Jerusalem.

Most tourist places will take USD, but a supermarket will want Shekels. Also, remember that haggling is an art form in touristy markets and expect the price you are first quoted to often be about 50 times the amount you end up paying if you're smart.
Bringing a skirt is good advice. Ensure that it covers your knees. Ideally, you should try to have a top that covers you as far as your elbows, but certainly shoulders for religious places.
If you're visiting religious neighborhoods such as Meah Shearim (as many tours do), you may be advised against wearing open toe shoes. Yes, it's a bit silly.
Oh, and at religious places, tops shouldn't be too tight or low cut. And make sure your phone is on silent, especially on shabbat!
Wow, there's a lot of rules. Welcome to Judaism!

as you mentioned its very hot, so pack only summer clothes, the nights are also hot, so don't pack any winter clothes.pack a bathing suite, towel, sun screen, sun glasses.flip flops, walking shoes and casual, everyday shoes.
camera,charger, unlocked cell phone.
for religious holly places(Jewish) you need to be covered up (female) but if you dint have long sleeves then they will supply you with a shawl.
