I hope someone can identify a bird similar to Oriole or Yellow-headed Blackbird for me.?
I live in west-central Minnesota (US). I have seen an unfamiliar Baltimore Oriole sized bird on the lawn. It is primarily black. Most distinctive is the back of the head and neck which is gold colored. This gold is about the color of the Hooded Oriole in my Audubon Field Guide. Perhaps even more what you would call gold than the orange of the Hooded Oriole. (The distribution of the gold is way different.) There is a distict border between the gold and black all the way around this gold patch. There are distinct white wing patches at the shoulder and some other narrow stripes of white on the back and around the rump.
Not Yellow-headed Blackbird, breast and front part of head was black.
Not Goldfinch, my unknown had much less gold and was bigger.
