babys first doc visit?

So I'm sitting at the wic office and i hear two girls talking, and they were saying they had two take there baby to the doc after two days of being home, i thought that was crazy cause some woman have c-sections and need to rest but anyway i was always told the baby needs a two week check up not a two day, is this a new thing, I'm hoping there wrong, I'm 39wks and will be 40 on 21st and after i had my other son i could barely walk, can someone explain this to me i'm praying this is not true, also i live in chicago so maybe this is just going on here i guess.

It's true. The doctors want to do a quick review of the baby's conditions soon after going home, typically 2-3 days.

If you have trouble, have someone help you go.

Sorry but it's in the baby's best interest.

I think they are doing that now. My baby isn't here yet but I do know my midwife does a mother/baby visit at 24 hours, 2-3 days, and one week and then we'll go to her office at 2 weeks and 6-8 weeks. The first three are low-key and at my home just to make sure everything is going well regarding healing, nursing, baby's health, etc. This is for a homebirth though, I think if I was at the hospital they would only do the 2 week one and maybe the 2-3 day one if you were released the day after your birth. I don't mind though, I like the fact that she's willing to give that extra attention to make sure things are going well without even having to leave my house and she'll check both my health and the baby's at the same time so we don't have to worry about appointments at two different doctors. I don't even have to schedule a pediatrician appointment until 4 months unless there's a problem. I am in the U.S. by the way, just had to add that in since homebirths are pretty rare here.

2 weeks here, but personally it's a waste. All they do is take vital signs and document them to start a file. There are no shots or anything else at the first one. I say it's a waste because they do all those things at the hospital before they discharge mom and baby to go home. In 2 days or even 2 weeks it isn't going to change that rapidly IMO.

After that you go again at around 3 months, then 6 months, then 9 months, 1 year and then 15 months, 18 months, 2 years and then it starts to go like every 6 months I think until they are 3. Usually your chosen pediatrician will tell you when you need to schedule the next "well check" visit.

I am in Canada and I had a visit from a public health nurse 2 or 3 days after we came home. During the visit they did the metabolic/genetic screen and looked baby over, checking things like their joints and reflexes. The first Dr visit was suggested to be between 3 and 4 weeks after being discharged from the hospital for healthy babies and 10 days to 2 weeks for premature infants and children with medical problems.

I had a c-section and my 2nd day of being home my son needed to go to the doctor. He had Jaundice so that is why. And he had to go for 2 to 3 more days... It depends on the condition of your baby. If your baby is healthy when leaving then you won't have to go till 2 week check up. But if you baby get Jaundice or something you will need to take them to the doctor.

We took our baby to see our pediatrician right away. I think it was 4 days after we got out of the hospital. Our pediatrician didn't go to the hospital that we used so we had an on staff pediatrician look her over to discharge her but felt better having our Dr. take a look at her also. So we took her for her first appointment early.

They could have been talking about an unusual circumstance, like me, I had to take my son 4 days after he was born because they messed up his blood test at the hospital. My poor little guy had to get poked twice at the hospital (yeah both times they messed it up), once on the 4th day at the dr's office, (that one was messed up too) and so once again at another hospital lab two days later. Talk to your dr to make sure and have a back up just in case you do need to be driven somewhere. Congrats and Good luck!!

My daughter was born August 22, 2006 and two days after I was released from the hospital I had to take her to the doctors. But my daughter also went to NICU for a day. So, I don't know. You should ask your child's pediatrician on what his/her recommendation is.

    Good luck and congrats!

If no longer something works then no longer something artwork. only tell the first practitioner toddler is goin to scream and that they are going to attempt and save it short. Youcan %. toddler as much as cuddle if necessary and then placed pass into opposite for examine as much as proceed. primary practitioner might have seen all of it earlier so do no longer difficulty approximately if. only save your self happy and smiley to reassure toddler each thing is okay. in case you get upset or annoyed toddler will experience that and be worse
