I had a breech baby and ended up with a c-section. I was given a spinal, which is just a shot in your spine. I was freaked out about it, but it barely hurt at all. It hurt less then a bee sting.
I was able to get around and stand up by a few hours later and took a shower the afternoon (I was scheduled for 7am and finished by 9 am). I was able to get around ok by a few days later. Pain killers are your friends, don't wait until you need them to ask for them. I tried to do that and ended up in horrible pain.
I was able to drive and get around by about a week later and was doing everything else by about 3 weeks later. It will take a while to totally recover (almost 4 months later I still feel as though I am bruised), but it's not bad at all.
My scar is about 6 inches long and is barely visible. They did a very low bikini cut and closed it with plastic surgery stitching. They pulled the skin underneath and stitched it on the inside, it was beautiful (still is).
They scheduled mine in advance, they generally don't want you to go into labor if your baby is breech.
Honestly, I was scared to death of a c-section, but it wasn't bad at all. The recovery is a little hard, but it's not bad at all.

I had a c-section with my son almost 8 years ago and am about to have another one in November. They gave me a spinal block which numbed me from my belly down. It was great! They gave me the shot in my back and by the time they were done I couldn't even lift my legs onto the operating table. It will definitely be sore for a while. My little guy always found a way to kick me right there where my cut was when I was changing his diaper or playing with him. But the scar now is only about 3 inches wide and it moved down pretty low. It took some time for it to get to this point, but its not bad at all. Also, since you aren't delivering vaginally you won't look funny or be sore down there! WOO HOO!
They will not let you go into labor if they are already talking about a c-section. They don't want to take a chance on having to do an emergency c-section at the last minute if they baby is still breech. If they do an emergency they will have to cut you vertically instead of horizontally. You don't want that!
I was a little worried about having a c-section the first time, but I am totally excited about having one this time around and being able to plan for it. The last one was a surprise the day he was delivered.

I had a c-section 3 weeks ago. I had a spinal. The first day, I was completely on meds so I really didn't feel that much pain. The worst pain was the second day, but each day after that, it got better and better. By the time I hit the 1 week mark, I felt pretty good. You still can't do everything, but I felt pretty good like myself. They will probably schedule the c-section in advance - they did in my situation and my baby was also breach. The scar is not very wide at all - maybe 3 or 4 inches. My Dr. did all the stiches on the inside and you can barely see the scar - only 3 weeks later. He did an excellent job, but some Dr.'s use external stitches or staples, so you will want to ask that.

Doctors usually recommend a c-section with breech babies, however sometimes they try to turn them. I also have a workmate who had twin breech girls vaginally so it is possible if you want to try vaginal and can find a doctor to support you. Otherwise:
1. epidural anaesthetic is used, which is a thin plastic tube into the epidural space in your back, near the spine. They use a local anaesthetic in this to block feeling from your waist down.
2. 6 weeks for the healing but the pain can last alot longer. Some women are able to move around really easily without much pain after a week or so.
3. It will be about 10 cm long at the top of your pubic region. Imagine wearing a bikini and its just under the top of the material. No it will probably not disappear entirely but will fade.
4. They will schedule it in advance as they know your baby is breech.

All questions you should be asking your doctor. But I can tell you I had a c section a year ago, and my recovery wasn't typical. I had problems with healing. Took 3 months. The scar is about 6 inches wide, and I don't believe it will completley disappear but it fades some. I would think if your doctor is definately planning a c section they will schedule it and not wait for you to go into labor. I am schedualed for my 2nd c section 6 weeks from today!

With my c-section I had a spinal tap done. It is better than an epidural. It covers from your chest down. It was wonderful. The recovery time for me was really quick. I walked an hour after my section. The sooner you get up and move the better you will feel. Generally the recovery time is 8 weeks but it probably took me five weeks. The scar depends on how big the baby is. My son was 9lbs. 8.3 oz. My scar is probably 6-8" long. It is not that big. Scars dont generally disappear but will fade with time. My scar looks fabulous. Your doctor shouldn't let you go into labor. Just tell him you want to schedule a time to go in for your section. Most doctors dont have a problem with that. Good luck and everything will be fine.

Since it's not an emergency you will have a spinal anesthetic, so you will be awake.
2. You'll go home in 3-5 days. Complete recovery may require up to 6-8 weeks.
3. The scar will never disappear, but it will fade.
4. They will probably schedule in advance, though if you go into labor first, they would do it then.

I've had 2 c-sections. First was emergency and it was fine just a longer recovery time, I had to be put to sleep. The 2nd was scheduled and everything was Great. I was up and home the next day just like a regular delivery. I had this with an epidural and had no problems at all. After it I said and still say I would rather have a scheduled c-section than a regular delivery. You are not tired out from delivery just a sore belly. Better than being so worn out and sore in the other place. LOL

1. Local, 2. 6 weeks full recovery - until you can drive etc... 3. The scar won't be too bad - it is usuall by your bikini line. 4. They will schedual a delivery date for you.
You do not have to have a c-section with a breech baby, it is up to you! read up on it. Most midwives won't do it, but old fashioned ones will!

hi, shame you have so many questions, i will help you as much as i can.
1 - you can choose which aneastetic you want - i would go for local (epidural / spinal) as this way you will be awake and welcome your baby
2 - the recovery times varies for each person, but they keep you in hopsital for about 4 days, and then the scar takes about 6 weeks to heal completely
3 - the scar will only be about 5 / 6 cm wide, if done correctly by a professional
4 - they usually schedule your c-section two weeks prior to the due date, in order to PREVENT you going into labour, but if you go into labour before your scheduled date, they will perform an emergency c-section
good luck - you can email me if you have any more questions.
