Oscar and piranhas together?

We just got a huge new tank. I got a 3+" albino oscar and my husband got 5 piranhas. I'm not sure the kind, but they are pretty small. The bags are floating in the tank right now. What will happen when we let them all loose? Will they get along or eat each other?

    OK

heres the deal fish are going to die. if the piranhas are smaller than the oscar he will work on killing them off.

If the oscar gets hurt the piranha will eat him.

Oscars are tuff fish and as long as its in good shape he will kill them. But if he gets hurt hes gone.

Its that simple large oscars will try to kill smaller fish and most times as long as there healthy have no problems doing it.

On the other hand piranhas will gang up on sick or hurt fish and eat them. but young piranhas are no match for even one big healthy oscar.

A group of sub adult piranha of 3 or 4inch would kill and eat an adult oscar.

even a single adult piranha would could kill an adult oscar. But but if its not hungrey theres a chance the oscar could bully and pick it to death.

the facts are theres no fish you can home with piranha sooner or later they will get the upper hand on them.

And adult male oscars will defend there area to the death so you should take care when picking there tank mates.

But in the end you will lose fish with your set up its never going to work.

    Piranha Vs Oscar

LOL. Sure you can always try anything. However both species are very territorial and aggressive. You're sure to have fights in the tank, they may not be deadly fights but there definitely will be conflicts. When the Piranhas get larger I think the Oscars will be on the losing team. Piranhas have teeth to tear meat, they pack a much harder punch. They are probably Red Bellied Piranhas which are the most popular and readily available of the species.

Hi I agree with most everyone here. You do not put Oscars and Piranhas together.

    this will end in disaster.

oscars are highly territorial, and may try and take on a piranha, the piranha will fight back, you will end up with a dead oscar.

piranhas need to be kept in species tanks - piranhas ONLY.

oscars need to be kept either alone or sometimes may cohabit with robust tankmates such as common plecos.

    never ever oscars and piranhas.

They are both territorial and mean. But the pirahna have one thing the oscars don't. They will school and they have a "pack animal tempermant". Not to mention they have sharp teeth that will year an oscar up. Oscars are mainly singular bullies. They will attack if provoked or threatened, but not as a group. Pirahna hide their numbers in packs and attack as a pack. If they detect a oscar or anything else, they will "eat it" and ask questions later, so nothing goes in with Pirahna's unless you want to get rid of it.

yep, your having a fish for 6 months is way more convincing than my 15 years in the business, just like those tanks on youtube that were set up a month ago. Yea, I'm going to change everything I think just because of your post.

if both the fish are well fed they usually stop being agressive, watch out for your piranhas though even if they are small they caan still attack the oscars if they are hungry

I think, u can b able to prove ur point until ur fishes reach their adulthood or maturity (may b). But surely, it will not take a long time for any of ur pets to show their natural character & end ur dreams jst like that.!!!
