how do you scrape burned rice out of a stainless steel pan?
I was making rice pudding and thought I turned it off and went outside to water the garden.
Came back in and OOPS, burned rice BADLY on my good stainless steel pan.
This stuff is STUCK on bad.
I soaked in vinegar over night with barely any results. I don't want to scour with metal and scratch the pan. It's a pretty nice $50 pan.
Any ideas, tips, tricks to get this pan clean using only plastic scouring pads. I've already put a ton of elbow grease in it.
Thanks.

Put 3-4 inches of water along with a hearty sprinkling of baking soda and a small squirt of dish liquid into the pan. Put on the stove, and allow to come to a boil. Turn the heat down and let it simmer for a bit. Be careful not to let it boil over or it makes a huge mess. The bottom should come clean!

Fill the pot up w/cold water to cover the burned on rice. Bring it up to a boil. Do it again w/some high powered soap in the mix. This time let the water sit in the pan until its luke warm, dump it out and scrub it up w/the plastic scouring pad. You should be all set.

RE: How to clean a burnt stainless steel pan? My daughter cooked Macaroni and cheese yesterday. When I got home it was sitting on a burner set on low. The bottom of the pan was black. I left it to soak overnight hoping to loosen it up. What can I use that will disolve this burnt on mess? The pan is stainless steel professional grade...

Try mixing baking soda into a paste with warm water & let it sit in the pan for a few hours.
Or this -- I made mine more watery & turned the heat on for about a minute under the pan until mixture bubbled. Then I turned heat off & let pan sit. That got most of it off, I recall. Then I use Bar Keepers Friend on anything that was left. Mine was not rice. We left the fire simmering under a pot of soup and all the liquid had evaporated & stuff burned on the bottom.

I'm taking to heart your words, "This stuff is stuck on bad."
Take the pan outdoors, spray the inside with oven cleaner.
Let is sit for an hour or so and it should come clean with a gentle scrubbing. You can repeat if necessary. Then wash it out with some dish soap and water.
Bar Keeper's Friend is a gentle scouring powder (a little like Ajax) that won't scratch up your pan. I've used it with steel wool a couple of times on my "pricey" stainless steel pans with excellent results.

Ok this one is going to sound odd, but it does work. Fill the pot with warm water, put in a dryer sheet, let it sit for an hour. everything will slide out in a big nasty burnt puck. the pan will be clean. This only works for stuck on starch (rice, pasta, whatever.) Wont do a thing for other stuck-on stuff, but for starch its amazing.

I just poor warm soapy water, let it sit and it should get soft. Scrape with a spatula, throw out the rice. Use an SOS or brillo pad and clean the pan.

soaking in vinegar wont make it come clean without scrubbing afterwards. I normally leave to soak with vinegar and soapy water, then wash as normal, the next day and it comes clean.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about that. I suggest trying some vinegar and baking soda- the two together work well. Also try boiling some soapy water in the pot for a while, that might help loosen some of the debris. Just remember not to actually scrape, as you said, we want to save that pan!
Good luck! I hope you can save it. :)

Hot water with a little soap and boil..it will come out...don't scour your pan you are right you will wreck it.
