I want good bass in my car. What do I need?

IMeaning, do I need speakers, boxes, amp, subwoofers, etc. I don't know what each thing does. It's a small car (Civic coupe) and it has a factory stereo. I am really just looking for general info here; I can figure out brands, etc on my own. Thank you...

Update:

Okay, from my research, I understand that subwoofers are where the bass is at. I wonder though if that means I'll need new speakers, etc. I guess I might need subwoofer amps? I'm not trying to blow my eardrums away with volume; just trying to pump up the bass.

all you need is, an amplifier, a subwoofer and a box for the sub and most importantly you need a "low level line output converter" a $20 part that lets you use an aftermarket amp with your factory stereo. what kinda amp, sub, box will be determined by 1 your budget, 2 what kind of music, 3 how much bass you want.

Don't let some salsman tell you that you need a whole new system, you don't!

fist you need a cd player that sends the music to the amp and from the amp it sends the beat to your speakers.

if you go 15" get a sealed box it will travel farther then 12s and it still hits on the inside but the 12s will hit alot harder on the inside if you get 12s dont get a sealed or bandpass box its a waste of a good system get a ported box. and if you want to hit hard get ( just say this is what i have 2 15" planet audio big bang theory, 2 3700watt mono block amps alphasonic and i have them wired at a 1/2 ohm 2 jellcell batteries and a planet audio cd player and its hooked up with a 0 gauge wiring kit ( by fosgate dont buy a cheap kit you can tell a big difference nothing from walmart) i can bow my front windshield out about 2 1/2 inches and my roof waves my hatch i had to put hood pins in it i got all this in a hatch integra

    Bass In The Car

A good bass has a lot to do with the a powerful speakers. Also, it will consume lot of power.

Any good brand will do, but try to take a size that will not cause interference with the sound with other speakers in the car. A test at the dealer would help you know the alignment.

Got the same set up as you have: This will work perfectly as long as you use your current stock speakers, the subwoofers are only to be used to give you awesome thumping sound, and dimension to the movies in your car.

Here's what I bought, and where I got it, and it plays like a dream. Now the subwoofer box, is really your choice depending on the size you want to use, or the trunk size.

    and the Amp is:

    and the harness is:

And this should do it, I had a local shop install it for me for about $ 50, make sure they know what they are doing. But look for a box for the subwoofer that would meet your space needs. Good Luck!
