I need good horror films...?

i want to watch some good horror films but i can't seem to find ones that either scare me or freak me out...i laugh at zombie films and i mock slasher films, "the shining" was the only film that got a little fear out of me...so if you could recommend me some films that might scare me and i don't feel they were a waste of time...please

Update:

haha yeah my friend tell me i need jesus...but i find romero movies satisfying not for horror but for content reflecting todays society

I feel your pain, truly I do. Take a look at some of the following

The Orphanage--beautifully done, and made me yell a few times in broad daylight

    Dog Soldiers

    The Descent

The Cottage--black comedy at it's finest--and don't let that put you off, because it's also incredibly gory and intense. British comedy by way of Texas Chainsaw Massacre

In A Glass Cage-- not for all tastes, and not strictly a horror/slasher film, but quite nasty and disturbing.

If you're into Asian horror, check out these.

Uzumaki--subtle and creepy. It had my flesh crawling for three days the first time I saw it. Well worth a look

    The Red Shoes

    Ju-on/The Grudge--the original, of course

Another Heaven--ending is a bit weak, but worth a look.

    Shutter--again, the original

    Meatball Machine

Save The Green Planet--scifi/horror/mystery/comedy. Well worth tracking down.

I never recommend the following without saying that these are some of the most violent, disturbing and gory films I've ever seen. They are also all quite good, and if you have the stomach for it, watch with my blessing.

Frontier[s]--newly added to my list of cautionary films. Brutal, nasty, gory.

Inside--ditto, though I'm not sure a guy would get the full impact, still, it's very gory and intense.

    Ichi The Killer

Gozu--not sure if this is horror or surrealism, but worth a look.

Tetsuo The Iron Man--watch Meatball Machine first and then decide if you want to go here...

    Audition--actually quite funny too.

    Flower Of Flesh And Blood

    Devil's Experiment

All of the Child's Play movies, Leprechauns 1 - 3, Rumpelstiltskin, Puppet Master (hilariously crappy), Halloween (classic), Wrong Turn, Candy Man (if you're 7), and Nightmare on Elm Street Parts 1 - 4. I usually just watch horror movies to laugh at how crappy they are, but you might get scared by them...

Sadly enough, I'm pretty much the same way. The only horror movie I have ever watched that buggged me even a little was "The Relic". I guess in order for something to bother you, you have to find one that deals with something you are familiar with ... scared of closed in spaces then pick a movie having to deal with that. Love children, then watch a movie where one turns demonic. Let me know if you find one that you don't laugh at so I can watch it too!

Exorcism of Emily Rose is pretty scary cause it's based on a true story.

The Hills Have Eyes (watch it in the dark, alone, next to an open window)

    Silent Hill was kinda creepy.

There are some pretty good suggestions already. Not sure this will scare or freak you out but I thought it was pretty good: Haute Tension (2003) - also known as Switchblade Romance.

I thought The Shining was excellent. You've probably seen this before but, if not, check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmkVWuP_sO0
