At my hospital, after a c-section, you are not allowed to leave until the third day, and that's if you check yourself out. They recommend you stay four days, so I always stay for four days. The first day, I'm usually so groggy and sleepy... The next day I usually get up and around and take a shower (yes!). The third day, I just spend the time with my baby and it's awesome because there is always someone there to help out. On the fourth day, I wake up, get a shower, get my staples out, get the baby changed into his take home outfit and hit the road running!
Of course this is all assuming everything went smoothly and there were no complications, such as excessive blood loss, or problems with the baby. These things could result in the stay being longer, depending on the severity of the complication.

5 months ago I had an scheduled c-section on Friday in the am. I asked the doctor to release me on Sunday. He said that was fine, since I was walking around. They had me walking around the maternity ward and made sure I was ok after. That was one thing that they made sure I did and also that I was able to use the restroom ok. To add I have 3 other c-section (yes total 4 c-section).

I had mine on Friday morning and was discharged the following Monday. It depends on your hospital's policy and if you've had any complications. Call up your hospital and ask them the average number of days.

Here in the UK it's generally 5 days. You can ask to go home the next day, but nobody would advise you to do that. Better let them take care of you through the most uncomfortable days.
