9 month old plays with everything BUT toys?

I was hoping some of the more experienced parents out there might have some suggestions. My 9 month old is crawling fast now and he's into everything. He's lost all interest in his toys (he has awesome toys) and is completely focused on remotes, phones, the laptop - basically anything that isn't a toy. Does anyone know any good tricks for giving him objects that are safe but will hold his interest at this stage? Thanks in advance.

My son is 9 months old and I have the same problem. Occasionally he will crawl into his room and play with his toys on his own but he'd rather have, like you said, remotes, cups, etc... He loves cell phone also!!

I went out and bought him a play phone- which he still pplays with but tis much more safer and cleaner than mine.

I also give him thick plastic cups-not the toss-away plastic though, and big plastic bowls or metal pie pans and give him wooden spoons to make him some music.

He plays with these way more than his toys!!! And he also alot of cool toys. I think I play with them more than he does just trying to get him to play with them!!

    Toys 9 Month Old

  • yep I do! I have a 4yr old 3yr old and 10mo old. Find toys that look as similar to the thing they want as possible and then take the friggin batteries out. My baby wants my laptop too. So I went to the store and found a toy laptop that is designed for like 7yr olds so it looks almost like mine. there aren't any pieces on it that will break off easily so its safe. Same thing for cell phones except we actually gave the kids old phones that we didn't use anymore, once again without the battery in it. Haven't found a replacement for the remote thing yet, but they are usually happy if you give them their phone instead when their going for the remote. Happy toy hunting!

my son is going through the same stage and what we have done is we have given him a remote that goes to nothing anymore, an old cell phone that no longer works and an old computer that he can bang on and it won't hurt anything.

He loves them all and plays more with them then he does his toys right now.

We have just given him items that are no use for us anymore and let him do whatever he wants with them and he leave our stuff alone now.

Thats normal for that age. They want to explore everything that they can touch. They like to play with things other than their toys at that age. Keep dangerous things out of reach and you can try to buy like a toy remote or cell phone. Things like that. Enjoy the time hes young. Its great.

Take all his toys away. Buy some cheap remotes he can play with. He is probably interested in things you guys use, he wants to be like you! Get him some stuff that he can use so he won't use your stuff. He will start to miss his toys and want them. Put them out of reach, but not out of sight.

  • aw man i know exactly what you mean. my 15 month old was the SAME way a few months before she turned one, but now she's all about her toys! she loves them but yeah she use to only want my phone, computer, keys, remote, ect. i hated it. finally i just gave her my old cell phone and see played w/ it some, but it was almost like she knew it wasnt mine so she didnt care to play with it. he'll grow out of it. give him a few more months. whatever you do make sure if he's teething DONT GIVE HIM YOUR PHONE unless it's waterproof. my daughter ruined my razor by getting slobber in it. but then i got a blackberry and since it was expensive i wouldnt even let her touch it and now if she sees it sitting on the couch, she doesnt even bother.

My son is one now and he was the same way. I ended up giving him a clean empty soda bottle filled with noodles. It was harmless and it made some noise ( which he enjoyed alot) We also had some old remotes that we took the batteries out of and he enjoyed just pushing the buttons on it. Hope this helps:)

hide them. hide everything or put them up. but, see at that age everything intrestes them. i had 2 put up a baby gate from the kitchen into the dining room and to upstairs cuz my oldest was into everything and actually at 9 months old climbed up a flight a stairs. at that age everything that they no is not suppose 2 b played with will get played with. just tell him/her no, take it away and put a toy in front of him/her. they'll get mad but, they have to learn. i did that will all 3 of my kids and now that my kids are older they're still into stuff but, it's more like there trying to get there own food and stuff.

    good luck
