...a DVD question, from a 'technological dinosaur'?

There have been some folks out there, who have expressed interest in having me post some of the more interesting and obscure films in my massive 13,000+ film collection; however, being the technological dinosaur that I am, I am lacking the massive knowledge and wisdom, to accomplish this. And so, upon recommendation, I am posting this query: How DOES one 'rip' and 'post' a DVD, so that one can share it online, amongst his fellow film lovers????

If you want a straight DVD -> DVD copy you can use a program called DVD Decrypter http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/ Make sure the Mode is set to File.

This process will create a virtually 1:1 copy of the movie so it will be very large in filesize. If you intend to share this online then make sure you have a capable internet connection and that your recipients are willing to download something of that size.

You can compress the DVD using XviD compression, you will save gigabytes on the file size and is usually the preferred way or sharing movies. This is the simplest guide http://www.doom9.org/autogk.htm

Are you going to be using torrents to share these?
