1690 on the SAT, should I retake it?
I'm a junior in High School and I received a 1690 on my SAT. The breakdown was Critical Reading 560, Math 520, and Writing 610, with a 12 on the essay. [which is perfect..]. My GPA is over a 3.5 and I'm twelfth in my class of about 400. Do you think it would suit me to retake my SAT? I haven't taken the ACT, yet..
I'm also on the Debate Team, in College Forward, and National Honor Society.
Plus, church and Early College Start....

That's not a bad score, but you can improve more. I think you should retake the SAT. When I first took the SAT, my score was low in the mid 1600s but then I got the sat guide from TutorFox: http://www.tutorfox.com/satguide.html and my score went up to 2090 (700 math, 760 writing, 630 reading). I highly recommend this guide for anyone wishing to get a higher SAT score. Good luck, and please let me know if you have any more questions.

honestly a 1690 is barely above average. i would definitely retake it, especially if you are applying to a semi selective college. and unfortunately for you most schools still don't look at the writing section. also, being so high in your class, colleges will use your test scores to see how hard your high school is and how competitive your other students are. try to get your SAT up to back up your GPA and prove you just do not have an easy high school.
And definitely take the ACT, i only got a 2110 on my SAT but i got a 35 on my ACT.

I'm not certain as to what scores will get you the scholarship(s) you're looking for, that tends to be dependent on your personal aims/ college search. But it is proven that if you retake the test a second time with moderate study/reviewing, you will score higher. However, I don't reccomend taking SATs more than 3 times; it makes you look desperate for a higher score in the eyes of admission offices

Retake. You're only a junior. You should get your CR and Math scores up, they're the important ones. Your GPA and Class Rank are good, but depending on what colleges you're looking at, a 1080 combined CR and Math isn't really high enough. You'll do better next time.

I think that is an awesome score! I am currently a senior in college with a 3.5 GPA and I don't think I could even get a score that good (considering I didn't even break 1000 when I took it). You can if you want, it's not like it can really hurt anything, but I personally would be more than satisfied with that score.

First off, congrats on the 12. With a score like that on the essay I would think you could definitely do better on you second try.... I got 1950 with my 6/12 on essay (though that's mostly due to my 780 on the math part lol)

Take it again only if you are sure that you will do better. It'll be a waste of money if you don't. Or you can take it again after cramming in some study sessions.
