  • Good Dining at Inexpensively?

Tomorrow night, my friends and I are going to go eat before a Formal Dance, and we are still looking for a good place to eat. Does anyone know of any high-scale, nice restaurants in Austin, TX, that are relatively inexpensive, we're talking $10-$20 a person...we are teenagers and we won't have a lot of cash.

  • How to decline a gift, without offending the buyer?

So, this Christmas, I hope this doesn't happen..I'd rather be ignored by these people, but I have a feeling they are getting me something for Christmas...here's the scenerio. My boyfriend, of one year's, dad doesn't allow him to talk to me when he's at his house or even text me. If he does, my boyfriend gets into trouble. (my bf says he's not allowed to talk to anyone who isn't family, but there was no rule before we started dating) I don't think they like me too much, because the last time I was "privledged enough" to go down there for a little while was on the Fourth of July..since then they've treated me like nothing more then a distraction. Recently, my dad passed away and his dad still insists that he can't call or text, even if I need my boyfriend. (he is the person I lean on when I have to be strong for my mom and siblings) The rest of his family loved me, they all are really nice and really supportive of our relationship..

How do I graciously, decline a present, if I were to recieve one from them? I don't want to offend them or cause anymore grief...but I have no idea how to decline a gift..except to say, "I can't accept this".

    Any advice?

  • What's the diffence between Life Insurance and Death Benefits..?

Recently my Dad passed away and I'm trying to help my mom with all the paperwork concerning his death. His employers at the time of death sent over the death benefit forms, but not his life insurance policy, which was through them. We live in Texas..and I was wondering what my mom needed to do in order to obtain the life insurance policy...or if the two were the same..I don't think it is, but we are both lost as to what a lot of this is. My dad took care of all of this stuff...and now we have to.

    So..the basic questions..

where does my mom get the life insurance policy?

Should she call my dad's employer?

(there was a policy, that we're 100% sure of)

Are the annuity and death benefits a form of his life insurance?

  • I just lost my dad..and..?

I just lost my dad and no one seems to care about how I feel..they all don't even notice if I cry or if I'm sad, but they expect me to do what they want when they are upset and missing my dad. I'm 17 and they put me in charge of everything and I'm so angry now and I want them to pay attention..I want someone to. No one cares if I'm sad or hurting...they just ignore it when I start crying and I don't know what to do because I feel so alone, like no one cares about me....and like I have to be strong...and I don't want to be strong I want to cry and I want to be babied.

His death was very recent..and the service is tomorrow and my mom is making me do the eulogy..and she's making me plan the service..I don't knw what to do..or what to say...I don't want to be strong anymore..I want someone to cry to..but none of my family cares if I'm sad....or hurting...

  • Family...money...and idk..I'm lost..?

I'm really not sure what to do with my life anymore. Here's what's going on, it's kind of long and complicated, but here goes, I really need advice. I got a job this summer, it's minimum wage and I work about 20 hours a week and go to High School. (I'm 17) My parents have been having money problems, because my Dad is neglectful of his job and when he gets paid money disappears...but that's another story..and well, every time they don't have money I pay for not only things for myself, but also for my sister. If I don't they get angry with me. It's really frustrating me but if i say anything it turns into a fight. Should I just leave it alone and pay for things that should be bought by my parents or should I say something? I'm tired of fighting because my parents always say stuff like, 'if you don't like it..move out.' or they call me names and insult me...and yell and sometimes it can get almost to the point of violence. I can't focus on my schoolwork very much anymore and spend little to no time at home. My dad is very neglectful when it comes to money--we don't have cable, i pay for my own phone, we barely have enough food, and wouldn't if other family members didn't step in. (he doesn't go to work..or when he does he wastes money) I don't know what to do anymore. I have tried to spend little to no time at home..but then my parents get on to me about never being home and "neglecting" my family. Is this fair? What do you recommend doing? I just have to finish my senior year and then I'll be in college...should I just deal with it for the rest of the school year? Should I start saying no? I just don't know what to do...i want to just leave, but I don't want to impose and cause problems with my family--I love them. My boyfriend has offered me a place to go..and I spend every Saturday at his house, but besides that no one else is aware of my situation. (not fully anyway) I just need help and feel like I have no real options to consider. Please help me. I could try working more hours, thus supporting them more, but I don't want to make my grades suffer anymore. Ugh..what should I do.

Sorry this is so long and complicated..but please help.

  • Summer Job...do I need a phone number to put on the application.?

Alright, my parents are being totally irresponsible with money and whatnot, so for one reason or another, I don't have a phone..[[which is hard.]] not a home or cell. Will this ruin my chances of getting a job, becuase the companies can't get in touch with me easily. I have e-mail, but I don't know how likely it is that jobs that teens get will use that to get in touch with you. I just turned 17 and really need my own money and income so that I'm not reliant on my parents. Any tips or suggestions will help so much. I really need to know if I need a phone number or if they can contact me through e-mail..?

  • 10 pounds in 2 Months..is this unhealthy?

Recently, I was talking with my boyfriend about how much weight I've been loosing, and he lost about 40lbs over the course of a year and is telling me that ten pounds and two months is too much weight at once and that it's unhealthy. He's concerned that I'm not eating healthy and that I'm just not eating enough...none of that is true, I do eat enough and I don't know how to get him to believe me. I need some back up here, is it unhealthy to lost 10lbs in 2 months..? And if not, how do I get him to believe that I'm not being unhealthy..?

  • How to deal with irresponsible parents...?

I know this question is odd, but my parents are really irresponsible with money and paying bills. My Grandparents pay their mortgage...and the phone/tv got cut off last night because they only paid half the bill. Thankfully the internet still works, my Dad comes home from work after only a few hours of working and my mom doesn't work..because my Dad is supposed to be the breadwinner. I can't work, because I don't have a ride to work and we live about 5 miles from the bus stop...I'm getting really annoyed, becuase if they budgeted their money they would being in this problem. When I bring it up, they get mad and say I'm jsut being disrespectful and that I'm not appreciative of what I have. They barely put food on the table..how do I deal with parents like this..I graduate in a year..and then I'm out, but I know they will call me for money once I have a steady job. I just don't know what to do about it anymore.

  • 1690 on the SAT, should I retake it?

I'm a junior in High School and I received a 1690 on my SAT. The breakdown was Critical Reading 560, Math 520, and Writing 610, with a 12 on the essay. [which is perfect..]. My GPA is over a 3.5 and I'm twelfth in my class of about 400. Do you think it would suit me to retake my SAT? I haven't taken the ACT, yet..

  • People are saying that my boyfriend changed me...?

My family and friends keep saying that my boyfriend has changed me into a meaner person, but I don't feel like I've changed at all. I feel like I'm finally becoming who I am..and am willing to defend that person now. Things that bothered me before are more annoying, especially the double standards in my home. I don't know how to get them to stop blaming him, it's not him, it's because they are doing things that make me mad. My boyfriend even tells me I should be nicer to my family and talk to treat them better, I feel like they are using him as an excuse for my bad behavior because its' easier then facing why I'm really upset. For so long I let everyone walk all over me..and now that I don't..people are mad at me..do you think that my boyfriend changed me for the worse? If so, how do I change that, and if not..then how do I become the person everyone wants me to be without loosing myself and without being a doormat?

  • How to deal..?

Lately I've been fighting with my Dad a lot..and today was like the breaking point. I said so much stuff that I didn't mean and I know I can't take it back, but he uses everything against you and he makes you feel like your inept and not good enough to do anything. My brother is always cussing at me and calling me names and my dad never says a word..and my mom tries..but my brother doesn't listen to her. My Dad doesn't care to spend time with me and my sister..and I just don't know how to deal with him. It's obvious that he cares more about my brother..and I hate to be the "drama queen" as he calls it, but he never listens..how do I deal with his double standards and unfairness without fighting with him?

  • help with buying a birthday present..?

Yes, I'm one of those clueless girls who doesn't know what to get their boyfriend for his birthday...I don't know what he would like, my mom helped me take him out to see Ironman, since I'm in High School and I can't work because she won't let me..I have a little bit of money and I wanted to buy him something that he would enjoy, but I can't seem to figure out exactly what to buy him. I want it to be something cute, but something that he'll use and won't just sit on his shelf and get old. We've been dating for 5 months this month.....and I really want to get him something that will make him smile. He's really not hard to please, because he's pretty laid back..but I don't want to get him something he won't like. Any tips would be greatly appreciated..

No inappropriate comments please, I'm only 16...and am not giving him anything physical!

  • What does it mean to be a true friend?

Okay, so lately I've had some issues with keeping friends, because it seems like I'm doing all the work to stay friends. My boyfriend told me that a lot of people that I consider to be my friends really aren't...and know I'm really confused as to how I can distinguish who my true friends are and who they aren't. I guess, just to be general, what does it mean to you to be a true friend? Would you consider someone you talk to minimally a friend? How do you draw the line? And is there something wrong with you if no one seems to want to be your friend?

I guess all these questions are coming from my own insecurities, but I really want to know what you guys think..so please answer. =]]

  • Where can I find affordable corsages/boutonnieres in the Austin area?

My boyfriend and I are going to prom [for church] tonight, and we need to find a place that sells affordable corsages/boutonnieres locally, in Austin. I've done some internet searches, but none of the websites are very conclusive. My mom said she's just going to drive around, but do you know if we can get them somewhere besides the florist shops? Do department stores sell them or somewhere like central market? I know it's a cheap substitute, but it doesn't have to be really nice, just real flowers. Thank you so much for your help in advance.

  • Is it legal for my High School to just start passing students?

Is it legal for a school to force teachers to pass students that don't know the material and that earn a grade of a 67-69?

Is it legal for them to take away teacher autonomy and to regulate the way students learn?

Is it legal for them to force students into AP classes without the consent of a parent? and to keep them in said AP class when the student opposes being there?

The High School I am attending, is starting to force these kind of requirements on their students. One of the principals is forcing me into AP Biology and AP Calculus next year and I really don't want to be there. My parents don't oppose me being there because they think it will look good on a college application and they know that I won't fail the class. Is there anything I can do as a student to get out of this kind of mess without a parent helping them out.

Please answer all the questions, I want to know if this stuff is legal.
