Social Security Disability?

I have 3 degenerative disc in my lower back and they are causing lots of pain in my hips down to my feet. MRI shows bone spurs pinching my nerve. I have been fighting with social security fro 3 years thru all of their processes. I have been given meds for pain and muscle relaxers etc. that don't help for long. My mental health is in serious trouble due to my inability to work. I had an attorney but they did nothing to help but wait to get paid so i let them go. I have been to all of the public and charity begging centers. I have applied to vocational rehab but this takes time. I and my wife were the owners of a Real Estate firm and the crash hit us hard left us no choice but to close the business. My wife now works part time as a bookeeper and can't find or get anything better in this economy at this time. We have lost our home and transportation and in january we were homeless. How can we get help to become self suficient again? I am sick of begging.

It is not uncommon to fight with social security and be denied 2-3 times before your claim is approved. Where is your social securty lawyer? They are not supposed to get paid until the case is settled and they only get a capped amount of money decided by the government. Sounds like you need a good doctor and more diagnostic tests to support your diagnosis. Your doctor can put you on state funded disability which is based on your past 4 quarters of earnings. Also sounds like you might need surgery on your spine. You need a good agressive doctor because you shouldn't have been allowed to get this bad or not receive proper treatment. What about MediCal and/or Medicaid in your state? There are so many resources out there, yes they take time but what else do you have to loose? Apply for everything and something should come through for you and your family. Do you have children? If so you have even more resources available through the state aid programs. State help is much better than no help at all. I'm in a similar situation but mine is a work comp case. It is discouraging and does play games with your emotional state of mind. Don't be ashamed to accept help when offered to you that is why it is there, for people who need it. I'm a bit concerned about your former attorney....what did you pay him for, help with SSDI? If so, that doesn't sound right. Good luck and I'll pray for you and your family.
