    Hello!

We're assuming you have a Windows operative system.

First possibility: Your hard drive space is so full that the virtual memory can't operate. Second: it could be the program that's indicating this that is "leaking" memory, meaning it's working bad in simple words, try reinstalling this program. Or you have another program that is running and that's using too much or all your available memory, find those programs processes in the task manager (press the ctrl+alt+delete keys at once) and close them. Or ... you do have too low virtual memory.

Let me introduce to what Virtual Memory is:

"Virtual memory" is a paging file on a hard drive where running programs can make operations on data just as if it was physical memory (also called RAM) except it uses free hard drive space instead. When the program is no longer running, the paging file is deleted. Access and write process on a hard drive is slower than on physical memory but thinking we use more and more and hungrier programs running simultaneously, the virtual memory will supplement your physical memory adequately.

If however you still get this message regardless of large virtual memory size, here's the problem: your physical memory size is too small and programs will try to work around it by using virtual memory instead while it really requires the faster physical memory. Check how much RAM you have in your computer, if you have to little the solution is to upgrade your computer by adding extra RAM bars - should you do so, get more info from your computer's manufacturer, IT advisers or start a new Yahoo question concerning the subject. There are different types and sizes depending on your hardware.

This is how you check and adjust the virtual memory size, in the Virtual memory control panel in Windows XP (see the source links for a Vista walkthrough):

    1. Right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties"

    2. In the System Properties window, go into the "Advanced" tab

    3. This tab is divided into 3 different topics, click on "Settings" in the one called "Performance.

    4. A new window opens, go into the "Advanced" tab there too

    5. The last topic in this page is called "Virtual Memory", to change its values you click on "Change".

In the Virtual memory settings, pick a hard drive partition, select "Custom size" and enter the minimal and maximal size of your paging file. You should do the same to additional partitions if any unless they are only for storage purposes and you never run any program from them.

Recommended minimal size = twice your total physical memory.

Recommended maximal size = twice the minimal size value, or more if you are ready to dedicate more hard drive space.

I hope this helps! See in "sources" some Microsoft support articles related to the topic.
