mercedes 380 sel with a blown head gasket?

i have not yet taken my car to a mechanic i was wondering if anybody could give me a price estimate including parts and labor . it is only a head gasket so it shouldn't be much, right

    wrong................shouldn't be much if your Oprah....but to a regular working person this job will be around1250.00 to 1500.00 give or take a few buckaroos....sorry...but Mercedes parts are expensive....labor on this motor very intensive,and the head or heads will need a resurfacing,not counting other odds and ends that will either need replacing or be damaged during tear down and disassembling of this engine

  • Probably around 800 to 1000 dollars. The gasket itself is really cheap ($12-30) but getting to it is another thing. They will need to remove exhaust and intake manifold (two hours) take off the head (one hour) and replace the gasket. Once it is in place they will have to torque down the bolts to the right specifications and put everything back on. Mercedes benzs have lots of wiring that needs to be unplugged and moved just to access the motor. Thats another hour or two of labor.
