Clutch on 2000 Honda Shadow 1100 does not engage.?

Bike has been sitting in friends garage for 24 months. We got it running without too much of a fuss.

The clutch will not engage.

DOT 4 Fluid in master cyclinder was in poor shape.

Question is where do I drain / flush slave cylinder?

Of course, the owner does not have a manual.

I will pick one up next week if required.

Now I must got tend to the ribs on the grill and pop a top on a cold one.

Thanks

Kyle

try these sites for a manual...free downloads..

if you put the bike in gear ... can you push it or is the clutch not disengaging??.. if this is the case... then pick the rear of the bike off the ground.. start the bike in gear & run it for awhile... operate the clutch now & then to see if it frees up..

next try putting the bike in gear & pushing it to start.. ride the bike for a short while trying the clutch..

just had a look.. manual here..big file.. but worth the time to download..

Drain/flush the fluid at the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder.

Keep adding new fluid and keep bleeding until the new fluid comes out.

Forgive my ignorance, but which model 2000 Shadow 1100 has a hydraulic clutch?

Can't help you regarding the drain for the slave cylinder but I can suggest that the plates are stuck together from sitting so long.

I had the same problem with a GS1000S motor that hadn't been run in a couple of years. I had to remove the plates and prise them apart. A good wipe with fresh oil and a cloth cleaned them up nicely. I dunked them in oil before I replaced them and the clutch worked fine when put back together.
