The Republican legislature in Florida decided to move up the date of the primaries. Both national committees--Republican and Democratic--told the local Florida parties that participating in such a primary was in violation of the rules of both parties. The Florida Democratic Party wanted their voters votes to count, so they participated in the primary, as did the Florida Republicans. There wasn't going to be another primary. It is a mess.

The bill to move up the primary was passed nearly unaimously (37-2 in the state Senate, 118-0 in the House) in the state legislature. Though the legislature is Republican-controlled, the Democrats in the legislature supported the date change as strongly as the majority party did.

Curious is correct. McCain will be the next president. Obama spent 5 mil in tv ads in Florida but yet he doesn't want their vote to count. Michigan will go McCain if Hillary don't win. To tell someone that their American voice does not count is really a stab in the back. People of Florida and Michigan won't forget this for a long time. Consider them "red' states for a long long time.

The democratic party including reps from the Hillary Clinton campaign all agreed that Florida and Michigan would not be included because they had gone against the party rules for the date of the primary, which gives the smaller states a chance to shine.

no it was the florida democratic leaders. They were warned MONTHS in advance (by the democratic national party) not to do it early. And they made the decision in JUNE 2007 to still do it early.

The democratic national party made the decision to penalize.

Republicans had nothing to do with any of this what so ever.

Read this article from the Orlando Sentinel to understand the situation better. It is from June 2007:

And here is another article from January 2008:

Regardless of which party it was, the ones hurt by it were the voters, who did not have a voice in this decision, by having their right to have their vote counted. The DNC is totally responsible for this, and has disenfranchised many voters, which may cost them the election in the fall.

Both parties approved moving up the primaries but at least the national Republican Party had some sense to count the votes.

It was the florida republican controlled legislature not the democrats. They are sick of Iowa and New Hampshire influencing other states.

Li you are wrong. You're probably not even from Florida.
