How much food do I need for a taco party?
I'm having a taco party with:
-tortillas
-salsa (homemade)
-ground meat with Mexican spices
-shredded cheese
-sour cream
-guacamole (homemade - so how many avocados?)
-jalapeños
-lettuce
-margaritas
Thirteen people will be able to pick and choose between them to make their own tacos. Could anyone tell me how much of each I should buy?

I had a similar party two weeks ago, except instead of tacos, it was build-your-own-burritos (about 15 people came). I bought 3 packages of 10 count soft (medium) tortillas. I made three homemade salsas from fresh ingredients, one a mango jalepeno salsa, the other a basic pico de gallo (tomatoes, cilantro, red onion, jalepeno, lime, salt) and the last one a roasted corn and black bean salsa.
I had to 2-16ounce packages of shredded cheese, one a mexican blend, the other pepper jack. One 16oz tub of sour cream. One headed of lettuce shredded. I used 8 California avocados for the guacamole. I also had made a 1 lb ground beef filling, a 1 and half pound chipotle marinated pork tenderloin (sliced very thin), and one flank or skirt steak.
I also had a variety of corn tortilla chips out for dipping in the salsas and a lime/cilantro white rice for the burritos. I agree with the guy above me, when people ask what to bring tell them to bring tequila and margarita mix. Good luck with the taco party!

Corn tortillas~ 2 pkgs or taco shells (or tostada shells)
Flour tortillas~ 2 pkgs
Shredded Cheese~3 large bags, Mexican Blend
2, 16 oz containers sour cream, one regular, 1 light
6-7 avocados will make enough guacamole.......
lettuce~2 heads, or use cabbage, it doesn't wilt.......
Jalapenos~13 people aren't gonna eat a LOT of them.......so a small jar or two......
Oh, and I always throw in a can of sliced, drained olives to the mix.....I like olives on my tostadas..... ;)
Chopped sweet onions
Chopped cilantro........
With the above, you can make a mind boggling combination of Mexican style food~even the vegetarians can have plenty to choose from......
Now you're set, I'd do half chicken and half beef, for those whom don't eat red meat.....also, you may want to offer a couple sides, Mexican Rice and Refried Beans, so that if there are any vegetarians, they can still eat and be comfortable with non-meat choices.......like bean and cheese burritos.......Enjoy your party.......
Oh, the Margaritas??? Have your guests bring the fixings.....you're supplying the eats, so let them bring the booze..... ;)
