  • Is there a font appropriate for writing code samples?

    I'm writing a document in Microsoft Word with some code samples. I want to write the code in a different font from the text to make it easier to read. Are there any fonts that are appropriate for this?

    Only fonts that come with Windows XP or Office 2007 please. I don't want to download any fonts.

  • If Class C IP addresses use 21 bits for the network and 8 for the host, where did the other 3 bits go?

    I read in various sources that a Class C IP address has 21 bits for the network address, and 8 bits for the host address. But IP address have 32 bits. What happened to the other 3 bits?

  • I'm looking for an explanation of voltage that doesn't compare electricity to water and voltage to pressure?

    A while back I started self-studying electricity and several sources explained voltage as being like water pressure. I remember that there were lots of situations that made no sense to me and I was going nuts until I consulted a friend who is a physics buff. It became clear that the reason I couldn't understand electricity is that I was thinking of voltage as pressure which is actually a terrible analogy that doesn't fit at all.

    I would like to get back into learning about electricity, so I'm hoping someone could point me to a book, website, or something that explains voltage without claiming it's like pressure. Thanks!

  • Where can I find a legal template to notify someone they must return my property?

    I have an ex I used to live with and he refuses to give me back my things. The police told me that before I take legal action, I should send him a written notice that he must return my things. I don't speak legalese, so I'm trying to find a template for this sort of notice. I googled "legal templates" but I can't find one for my situation, or even a similar situation. Could anyone please help?

  • What is this Japanese word?

    A while back I learned a Japanese word that can be loosely translated to mean "Come on, you can do it!" but I forgot the word. Does anybody know what word I'm thinking of?

  • What was the name of the murder victim where none of the witnesses called the police?

    It was in the 70's and became a famous case, because the killer chased her around for hours and tons of people saw it but nobody did anything. What was her name?

  • Clothing similar to Victoria's Secret brand?

    I love the clothes at Victoria's Secret website. Their sweaters, dresses, and jackets are sophisticated, but unique. The quality is nice and the price range is good. I wonder if anyone can recommend a website with similar clothing?

  • What was the "salt lick" in Veronica Mars?

    In the first season of Veronica Mars, somebody did something to Veronica (I won't say more because of spoilers). They called it a "salt lick." What does that mean?

  • Determine the weight of a ruler using only a weight?

    I'm an idiot apparently. In my physics lab, we had a ruler and a 100g weight and we had to determine the weight of the ruler. I thought this was no problem and put the weight on top of the ruler and then pulled the ruler out from the edge of the table until it was just about to fall, but not quite and recorded how far out I had pulled it.

    I thought that I could then use mass*length on one side equals mass*length on the other side to get the equation. It was 66 centimeters sticking out, with the weight 10 centimeters from the pivot point (edge of the table).

    I weighed the ruler to make sure I could check my answer, but my answer is way off and now I'm at a loss for what to do. .66*M=.1*.1 would mean that the ruler weighs .022 kilograms, but it should weigh around .3 kilograms.

    If anyone would please tell me where I'm going so horribly wrong, I would be most grateful.

  • Any ideas for a funky hair cut?

    I'd be so happy if you could recommend a hair cut for me!

    -I want something funky and a bit unusual. I'd still like it to be a bit cute or sexy, though. I don't want a mohawk or a crew cut or anything like that.

    -I have superthick hair. It's currently halfway down my back, but I could cut it to any length.

    -I know nothing about styling hair, so it needs to be easy to style it.

    -I don't care if it's trendy or not. If it's dated or considered "out," that doesn't bother me.

    -I want something that lasts a while. I usually don't cut my hair short anymore because it looks great for two weeks and then it grows out and looks funny. If it's short, but grows into a new neat style, then that would be fun.

    Thank you for any suggestions!

  • Buying clothes if you're in between plus-sized and "normal."?

    I keep hearing that size 12-14 is the average size for a female, but most of the shops only carry clothes up to 10, with just a few size 12 options. The plus size shops always claim to start at size 14, but I rarely find anything under size 18 there. Where do I shop if I'm in between?

    To make matter worse, I can't buy sets because I need to go to a plus-sized shop to buy size 14-16 trousers and skirts, but to a "normal" shop to buy size 12 tops and jackets. They've got great suit sets for office wear at The Limited and at Lane Bryant, but I can't get a matching set because I have to shop at two places to get top and bottom.

    Is there any shop in the Northern Virginia area that has a range of sizes?

  • Women's magazines/zines/blogs for the career-focused?

    Every women's magazine I know of is either entirely about feminist issues (which is great, but not what I'm looking for right now) or all about make up. I love the career section in Cosmopolitan, but I'm hardly going to buy the magazine for 50 pages about make up and one page that's actually worth reading.

    Suggestions and links, if you please!

  • How to address someone in a letter when you don't know their gender?

    I'm writing a formal letter, but I don't know the recipient's gender. All I know is their surname. They could be a Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms, or Dr. Is there a polite way to formally address them in a letter without resorting to the impersonal "Dear sir/madam"?

  • C programming newbie: How to store a new value with each loop?

    I need a program that stores a new value each time it goes through a loop. I have this code:

    for (s =1; s<= products; s++)

    {

    printf("State the price:");

    scanf("%i", &price);

    }

    Obviously it won't work because each time it goes through the loop, it will overwrite the previous value. How can I store every value the user inputs without overwriting the previous one?

  • What are some productive things I can do while watching TV?

    Something that doesn't require me to buy anything and I can do on the couch. Perhaps, for instance, some strength exercises that a person can do while sitting and looking forward, but don't require weights or any other purchase?

  • Is it copyright infringement to let my customers play video games in my café?

    I run a small café. I understand that I must have a license to show a movie without infringing copyright laws. Are there any such copyright laws to disallow me to let people play video games? I would like to set up a Playstation or a Wii or something that the patrons can play free of charge.

  • Why is it impossible to lose weight?

    I eat 1500 calories a day, a lot of which is fruit and vegetables and it's quite low carb. I don't touch junk food, sweets (apart from fruit) or alcohol except for special occasions. I even tried 800 calories a day for a couple months. I get at the very least an hour of aerobics in each day and I go everywhere on foot.

    A year of this and I'm still 20 lbs overweight, haven't lost a thing. I went to three doctors. I came out negative for hypothyroidism, so they pretty much just told me to keep doing what I'm doing, even though it's not working. What can I do? I feel horrible, uncomfortable and so incredibly ugly.
