how much breastmilk should 6mos 6.5 kilos (14.5 lbs) be taking in one feeding?

since i breastfed exclusively, i don't really know how much my baby should be taking at this age & weight. i've been a full time mum since baby was born but i'll be teaching again this june. i have plenty of Bmilk stored. i've been trying to give bmilk in a bottle since she was 3mos but she never liked it. on the rare times that i had to leave her with my mother, baby would just take a few sips& looked like she was waitin for me. my mom said, baby never really fed til full when taking from bottle

i've left her quite a number of times in the past couple of wks to prep for sch. from a bottle she would only take 3oz! she'd sleep then eat again in an hour, so i'm sure that's too little. tried giving Bmilk from a cup as well. same result. she really wants to nurse from me :-)

good thing now is that she's starting solids so i'm sure she doesn't go hungry. worried abt nutrition though. once sch starts, i'll be leaving her for longer intervals &she really needs to bottlefeed

any ideas?

Update:

can't formula :-) she's allergic to dairy. her infant eczema cleared up five days after i stopped drinking milk in the morning

A guide my Dr gave me from the American Academy of Family Physicians says at 6 months babies should have around 6-8 oz of milk 3-5 times a day. It also says 8-12 mth olds should have 6-8oz 3-4 times a day (since school starts in the fall). So by then she'll at least need it less often. In the mean time, I'd keep having someone give her a bottle more often. Maybe by then she could drink it from a sippy cup.

I breastfed my first two and like your daughter, they never really took to a bottle. I ended up going straight to the cup after they weaned themselves, first one at a year and second one at 8 months. My third baby is bottlefed and he has reflux. I only mention this fact, b/c he only takes about 2-3 ounces at a time from the bottle and goes HOURS in between. My doctor has said that this is fine, babies actually only "need" 10-16 ounces a day to gain and do well and since he takes his first foods just fine, it is no longer such a concern for us. Some days, he will take 30 ounces in 24 hours, and other days he will take only 16 or so. It is frusturating and concerning, but totally ok.

Going back to work is a concern for you, leaving her in care is hard enough without thinking she is starving herself. Rest assured though, my guess is she will eat her foods while you are gone and take very small amounts from the bottle and when you get home, she will more than likely nurse for an hour on you. And that is fine, maybe you can grade some papers while she is nursing?

You could perhaps give her some formula in the bottle instead of the BM. It sould be that she only wants the breastmilk from you but might accept formula.

My four month olds would drink 8 ounces of breast milk easy. But it depends on the baby and how long he goes between feedings. Course I was a milk factory too! See how he acts between feedings, does he get fussy or is he content for long periods of time. Judge by how your baby does, if he fusses like he is still hungry after a bottle, he needs more, if he doesn't than he's fine. One way to judge is if he wakes up alot at night. If that is the case, he needs a bit more during the day. Good luck hon! Don't worry, you'll figure it out.
