About $1 each in small packs, down to a few cents in bulk.
Replace after about every 2-8 hours of actual sewing time (needle in fabric time), or every garment, or when you start to
hear that "pop-pop-pop" sound if that's sooner.

Have you oiled your machine lately? If it's that old, then it needs more upkeep than teh newer ones, and that means oiling properly as well as taking out the bobbin mechanism and getting all the lint out. Check that oil. Also, you might check the tension. Sometimes mine catches a little when the tension is off and it can make the bobbin clog as well as the needle stop moving up and down.

Cheap, comparatively, and they come in packs of various sizes and kinds. The cost depends on the type and kind and number you get. (Anywhere from a few dollars and up)
Go to your nearest good fabric store. They will carry them. I shop in both Jo-Ann Etc. and Hancock Fabrics and have seen them.

I think that if you have to ask this question, you probably shouldn't be using a sewing machine.

They are really cheap, I think last time I bought them they were about $5.00 for 3.
