What questions should I ask my Dr about my 8cm ovarian cyst?

About two months ag I went to the Gyno for my annual. The first time in about 4 year. I tol him i was having some pain and he sent me to get an ultrasound. They found this 8cm cyst on my left ovary, he sent me for an MRI a month later to see if it changed. He told me that this cyst has been there for at least 4 years because it showed up on a CT Scan I had when I had a Kidney stone.

I go in tomorrow to talk about what we should do. I am just looking for questions that will help me to become better informed when I go in tomorrow.

Thanks!!

Ask if the cyst can just be drained, or if it has to be removed completely. Can either of these be done laparoscopically (I have no idea if that's the right form of that word), or would it be actual full surgery?

That's about all I can come up with for now...

It's always a smart thing to have a second opinion. I would consider surgery though because if they burst, talk about pain, been there, and even at that it does come back, because the roots do not die, if they just merely burst. Mine burst 2 times, until I took care of it, yea I know that was not very intelligent, but it was fear based, and that was before the laparoscopic surgery was invented. What ever you do best wishes.

well I am sure he wants to discuss surgury. Ask him about what options there are surgically. I imagine he wants to remove it since its been there so long. You don't want it rupturing. Especially since it just keeps getting bigger. You can wind up having serious problems such as internal bleeding. Best wishes. You will feel better once it has been removed.
