    No !! it's not true ..

it's not allowed to Muslim people to raise dogs inside their homes - they can raise them outside if they need them for guarding or something -

but that doesn't mean that there are no dogs in Makkah or Medina ..

Source(s): I've been in both Makkah & Medina several times :D

Dogs are not allowed inside the Holy mosques, and I guess no other pets qualify either. That is in every religion though.

Now regarding Mecca and Medina of course there are dogs there. There is no 'ban' on dogs, neither dogs are 'haram' in themselves.

Prophet Mohammed just recommended that people avoid them for health reasons, as they can spread rabies.

    That's about it.

Dogs are not allowed into the holy places in those cities, but when Islam's first mosques were built they were very open, there was no carpet (just dust and sand) and no-one was there to really guard it so dogs used to come and run about and some messed it up.

    Grassfell,

One of my non-Muslim friends told me that Muslims believe that the dog is a non-clean animal and therefore should not be allowed inside of the home.

I asked a Muslim friend if that were true, and he said, "Dogs are permitted in your home, if they are there to defend you".

I would surmise that since Mecca and Medina are holy areas and do not need dogs to defend them, dogs would not be permitted there.

[18:10] When the youths took refuge in the cave, they said, "Our Lord, shower us with Your mercy, and bless our affairs with Your guidance."

[18:13] We narrate to you their history, truthfully. They were youths who believed in their Lord, and we increased their guidance.

[18:18] You would think that they were awake, when they were in fact asleep. We turned them to the right side and the left side, while their dog stretched his arms in their midst. Had you looked at them, you would have fled from them, stricken with terror.

but hadith says angels do not enter where dog is ? what a terrible lies and fabrications hadith books attribute to Prophet Muhammed ! another evidence that hadith followers reject Glorious Quran

i don't think it's true.. i mean, how can they even control dogs not to enter those cities? dogs just wonder around so i don't think they'll stop them from entering.
