can all birds with webbed feet swim?

Can all birds with webbed feet swim? We've got thousands of them attracted to the lights circling the ship at night. Many land on the ship after repeatedly running into the bulkheads. We threw hundreds over the side in Alaska when we had the same thing happen and almost all of them ended up in the water. Not sure if they ever got out of the water after that.

my brother emailed this to me from the ship he works on.

If they are flying around a ship, they are definitely sea birds, so yes, they can swim when they choose to. If you think about it, evolution makes swimming birds have webbed feet, so they are naturally able to swim and rest on the water.

Now if only I could explain why seagulls like to hang around hotdog stands...

Frigate birds don't swim; but then, their feet are only partially webbed.
