be gentle: on the tax stimulous i have a 17 & 19 year old who filed their own taxes?
They have both received their tax refunds, via paper check. Will they be receiving a stimulous check? One minute I think yes, but then another I think no. They were living in my household during 2007 and I am thinking I claimed them as dependents, yet they were both able to get a tax refund.
Did I do something wrong? Should I tell them to stop waiting for their stimulous checks?

if you claimed them as dependants and they filed their taxes independantly then you are guilty of tax fraud. might want to contact the IRS and get this fixxed.

You do NOT just let him fill out and file his own income tax return a child can also be required to fill out and file their own separate 1040 income tax return when they do have any earned income amount and IF they have any federal income tax amount that is reported in the Box 2 of their W-2 form they might be able to qualify for a REFUND of some are all of the FIT amount when the TAXABLE income amount is LESS than they standard deduction amount for the tax year in question. The child can NOT claim his own exemption and the exemption amount will have to be -0- ZERO on that line of the 1040 income tax return when the return is correctly completed and the box that is page 1 is checked indicating that the child is a dependent of another taxpayer for that tax year for this purpose. Would never be combined on your 1040 income tax return for this purpose. Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 05/10/2012

Dependents will not get the rebate. The parents will not get extra for claiming a dependent over 16 in 2007.The dependent may get rebate when he/she files the 2008 tax return only if the parents don't claim them.
If you do not receive full amount of $600 now, then you may get the balance amount when you file your 2008 return, and you become eligible for the tax rebate.

If you claimed them on your taxes then they won't be receiving stimulus checks. Although for your 17 year old kid you could be receiving an additional $300 in your stimulus check (if you qualify).

If you claimed them as a dependent, they do not qualify for the rebate. They can stop waiting.

If you don't know whether you claimed your children as dependents, you need to find that out. You also need to find out if your children claimed themselves.
If you claimed your children, there will be no stimulus payment for them. You may receive a stimulus payment for yourself if your return qualifies.
If your children claimed themselves, they may receive a stimulus payment, if their returns qualify.

If they were (or could have) claimed as dependents by you, they will not get the rebate.
